New web series examines the ethics and attitudes around wildlife conservation
EDMONTON, AB (MMD Newswire) January 22, 2016 — One of Canada’s premier wildlife photographers today launched a brand new documentary-style, no-holds barred web series tackling the most timely and controversial issues facing Canadian wildlife.
The first episode of EXPOSED with John E. Marriott hits the web today with a hard-hitting, short and intense six-minute examination of the British Columbia grizzly bear hunt, featuring the kind of sharp and candid commentary Marriott’s growing audience has come to expect from him.

Marriott – author of five best-selling Canadian photography books and contributor to Maclean’s, Reader’s Digest, Canadian Geographic and National Geographic – says the series will ultimately challenge viewers to examine the ethics around current wildlife conservation and management policies.
“There is a lot of injustice out there when it comes to how we protect our wildlife and I wanted to do something about it,” Marriott said. “EXPOSED deals with these injustices in a very raw and honest way. I’m not going to pull any punches.”
Over the span of his 20-year photography career, Marriott has sold more than 40,000 books and 200,000 greeting cards nationwide. He is one of just a handful of Canadian wildlife photographers to have ever placed in the international Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition and he has been the wildlife photography columnist for Outdoor Photography Canada magazine for the past five years.
John’s travels have taken him from coast to coast and from the prairies to the high arctic in Canada, as well as to Alaska, Yellowstone National Park and the highlands of Scotland and Ireland. He has amassed a strong, organic social media following of more than 38,000 on Instagram and more than 107,000 on Facebook.
“I want to use the platform I have to change the public attitudes around these issues that are near and dear to my heart,” Marriott said. “In that sense, EXPOSED really is the culmination of my life’s work. I feel as though I’m in a position to stand up and advocate for these animals that I’ve spent my life getting to know and love.”
EXPOSED will also profile some of Marriott’s favourite subjects and locations while sharing tips and how-tos for aspiring amateur photographers.
Marriott has teamed up with Edmonton-based KO Productions to produce the series and advertising agency Starburst Creative for additional creative and promotional support. Main episodes, varying in length from six to 20 minutes, will be released every three weeks onto www.exposedwithjohnemarriott.com and shared through social media, with a number of shorter segments released more frequently. A total of 17 main episodes are planned for release in 2016, along with shorter “how-to” and product videos.
“We are incredibly excited to partner with John to bring his vision for EXPOSED to life,” KO Productions President Kim Odland said. “Not only is John a thoroughly knowledgeable and skilled photographer, he is without a doubt one of the most passionate and articulate defenders of wildlife you’ll ever come across. We look forward to EXPOSED shaping the conversation around how we protect our wildlife.”
