Texas Specialist Center Announces Opening Of Direct Orthopedic Care (doc) Walk-in, Outpatient Orthopedic Urgent Care Facility

Costs Less than Emergency Room with Quicker Care & Direct Access to Orthopedic Specialists

Lufkin, TX (MMD Newswire) August 31, 2015 — Whether you strain your knee on the court, get injured while working on the job, or your child fractures an arm at soccer – you typically wind up at the Emergency Room and walk out hours later with a costly bill and a referral to an orthopedic specialist who will actually treat the injury.

Never again. Texas Specialist Center has opened Direct Orthopedic Care (DOC) – Lufkin’s first walk-in Outpatient Orthopedic Care facility treating minor to serious orthopedic injuries in adults and children.

“We saw a need in our community to provide an emergency room alternative to treating sports and work-related injuries. We all know these types of injuries can be painful. It is our goal to offer our patients an expedited, less costly experience with direct access to the necessary specialists,” said Dr. Merritt Pember of the Texas Specialist Center.

The board-certified specialists at DOC treat a variety of orthopedic conditions including fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains and tears. When pain, time and cost are critical factors, immediate access to an orthopedic specialist offers maximum convenience.

Research shows the average expenditure of a typical Lufkin-area emergency room orthopedic procedure, including x-rays, splint and facility fee, costs nearly $2100. Unfortunately, the patient is then referred by the ER physician to an orthopedic specialist to actually repair the injury. Not only does this add additional costs and fees, it also adds additional time with an untreated injury.

The same visit at DOC, with same-day access to a specialist, costs $504.34. DOC also reduces the average Emergency Room waiting time from 3:36 to just less than one hour for the same service.

Direct Orthopedic Care is the only walk-in, out-patient urgent orthopedic care facility in the area and is open every day, 365 days a year (including holidays) with no appointment necessary. Located at 208 Gaslight Blvd in Lufkin, TX (75904), DOC is open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information visit www.DOCTexas.com or call 936-634-0062.
