DEBKAfile was founded by a team of journalists in June 2000 as an independent Internet Web site, providing an intelligence and security news service. September 4, 2017, 10:13 AM (IDT)

South Korea’s military on Monday fired missiles into the sea to simulate an attack on the North’s main nuclear test site – a day after Pyongyang detonated its largest ever nuclear test explosion. The live-fire exercise by F-15 fighters jets and land-based Hyunmoo ballistic missiles was meant as a “strong warning” to Pyongyang, after President Donald Trump faulted Seoul for “talk of appeasement.”

The drill’s target was adapted to the distance to the North’s test site and aimed at practicing precision strikes and cutting off reinforcements, said Seoul’s military.
Defense Secretary James Mattis said the US would answer any threat from the North to allies with a “massive military response.” He said American does not seek “total annihilation of the North, but added: “We have many options to do so.”

Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
