After some intense discussions between the Federal Reserve Board, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the Secret Service, and President Trump, The Bureau of Engraving and Printing is expected to put Trump on the $100 Bill once Congress passes a law to make this exception. Congress made such an exception in 2020 called the “Semiquincentennial Coin Act” to authorize commemorative coins featuring living people. Congress is trying to categorize this as commemorative as well due to everything that Trump has accomplished. What started as a tradition became law in 1866 and is U.S. Code 31 U.S.C. & 5112. The reasoning for the law prohibiting living people and presidents was the Founders wanted to distinguish the Republic from monarchies where rulers faces symbolized authority on currency. In response to a reporter’s question Trump replied by saying, “the Democrats already think I’m a king, so what the hell.” The Democrats of course are furious, with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries telling reporters that Obama should be first.
