Fall Festivals In New England

It’s hard to believe that fall is only a few weeks away, especially with all these extreme temperatures we seem to keep getting. Can you smell fall in the air yet? Cooler temperatures, leaves changing and fall festivals taking place are what some states have to look forward to in the next several months. New England in particular, is filled with fall festivals during the months of September and October. Here are just a few of them.

Slater Park Fall Festival, mid-September

Head on over to Slater Park to celebrate local artwork and being outdoors. This festival features an open-air market, more than 100 vendors, a carousel and activities that are led by Dagget Farm. A variety of performances will take place, so don’t forget your blankets or lawn chairs. A celebration of Art and Culture set on the grounds of historic Slater Memorial Park. The festival’s open-air market highlights over one hundred crafters, artisans, and creators of original handmade items. The surrounding areas are filled with fun, food and entertainment for the whole family.

Kent Fall Festival, late September

Located on CAMA museum grounds, this unique festival transports visitors back in time with it’s interesting displays and learning opportunities. There will be train rides, blacksmiths and a sawmill demonstration. This festival also features plenty of heavy machinery available for visitors to view. A favorite activity is sampling all of the food. Kent Fall Festival is known for its pie with ice cream and Engineer’s Vegetable Beef Soup.

Audubon Greenwich Fall Festival, September

This is the perfect festival for nature lovers. It features raptor shows, hikes, hayrides, live animal displays and hawk releases. Kids can take part in arts and crafts, games and face painting. There’s plenty of food on hand to enjoy after working up an appetite at this festival. Food items include barbeque and dessert-type items.

Applecrest Farm Fall Festivals, September and October

Hampton Falls, New Hampshire festival takes place on weekends in September and October and features a corn maze, hayrides, apple picking, and other fall activities.

Boothbay’s Fall Foliage Festival, early October

There’s no better way to celebrate fall foliage than with a festival. This event features dozens of vendors selling handmade items, steam train rides, and over 60 vintage cars. There’s a kid’s corner with plenty of family-friendly activities as well. One of the favorite events that takes place is the pumpkin carving contest, which both kids and adults can participate in by preregistering and paying a fee. During the festival, there will be a variety of artisans and live music playing throughout.

Milford Pumpkin Festival – Milford, NH, early October

Food, live music, family fun, crafts, pumpkins and more! Over 35,000 people attend this annual event. Giant pumpkins, craft fair, make-your-own scarecrows for kids, haunted trail, corn hole toss competition and more.

Strawbery Banke’s NH Fall Festival, mid-October

This event occurs every year on Columbus Day weekend. Visitors can enjoy farm animals and livestock, craftsmen demonstrations, food preservation lectures, garden tours and a candle-making workshop. There will be various people at this festival striving to share their trades and knowledge with others.

Mount Sunapee Fall Festival & Pig Roast Weekend – Newbury, NH, mid-October

Live music, beer and food. Skyrides will be running. Games include water balloon toss, wheelbarrow races and donuts on a string. Other activities include a pumpkin carving contest, face painting, hay wagon rides, inflatables and more. Duck drop and 5k (more information in separate event listings on the event website).

Warner Fall Foliage Festival – Warner, NH, mid-October

Since 1947, the Warner Fall Foliage Festival has brought our NH community together with our annual celebration and using proceeds to help build and support local nonprofits, schools, and cultural activities. Annual event with proceeds donated to community organizations and projects. Live Entertainment, Pie baking contest, craft fair, farmers market, 5-mile road race, fun run, kids corner and more.

Harwich Cranberry Arts and CranJam Music Festival, end of September

This festival takes place in late September and celebrates the cranberry harvest in Harwich, Massachusetts. It features arts and crafts, live music, and cranberry-themed activities.

New Hampshire Pumpkin Festival – Laconia, mid-October

Two-day festival in downtown Laconia, with over 40,000 attendees, 20,000 Jack O Lanterns (carve at home or at the festival!), pumpkin weigh-off, pumpkin carving contest, food and craft vendors, 10K/5K, beer garden, live music, kids activities, zip line and climbing wall, horse-drawn hay ride, and more!
