Once more, prohibition of certain acts fails

Warning: a bit of humor during a dark period.

Nationally (not just in now officially-Socialist New York City), there has been a push for decades to destroy all power and rights of landlords. (Of course, the name itself should be verboten: “-lord” is an example of feudalism at best, and tyranny at worst, right?

Part of the attack on people who rent out property to other people (especially when that property is a place to live) is making it more and more difficult to evict unwanted, unpaying, and abusive tenants, and squatters.

Thus it comes as a great surprise to The Price of Liberty to hear this news, as reported by Fox but still somethng we believe to be accurate:

A 550-pound black bear that had been living beneath a California man’s home in Altadena for over a month has been successfully evicted. The bear, which had been causing extensive damage and creating a dangerous situation, was removed after a bizarre strategy involving a BEAR League expert crawling inside and firing paintballs filled with vegetable oil. The bear was then placed under an “unwelcome” mat that delivers an electric shock, which helped it leave the crawl space. The homeowner, Ken Johnson, expressed his gratitude for the BEAR League’s assistance and the successful removal of the bear, which had been wedging itself in and out of the small crawl space since late November. 

Oh, dear, oh, dear. So many things wrong about this situation.

Look, we know that California and Los Angeles (Altadena is a community in LA) have serious problems, but why have government agencies not intervened on the behalf of this squatter? And ensured his safety, and prevented this torture inflicted on him (or her: personal pronouns have not been identified).

Where is PETA? Where is the Humane Society? Where is the Tenant’s league? Was the bear even given an opportunity to apply for Section 8 benefits? None of thems have responded?

For all we know, this squatter may actually be an immigrant from south of the border! He (or she) may have had dependents, cubs who are now homeless once again.

We know nothing about this BEAR League, but they certainly don’t appear to be standing up for the rights of bears! They allow the use of torture: paintballs direct directly at their body? And with vegetable oil? (We bet it was Canola oil. Isn’t that a carcinogen in California?) And then throwing an “unwelcome mat” as well? (Apparently that delivers electrical shocks – kind of a wide spread version of a TASER?) How cruel can they be?

Of course, we also need to ask where the LANDBACK people are, too. After all, that was bear territory long before white people (or any color of people) colonized the area. (Look at what is on the California flag?) (Second note: gee, why isn’t harassaing a bear a crime in California: abusing the State Animal?)

Since we know (from NYC) that homeownership is racist, this homeowner is not just a nasty, ugly landlord, he is also racist!!!! And this was, we note, a black bear. We bet the bear would have been better treated if they were a polar (white) bear, maybe even if just a brown bear. (This is California, after all.)

Clearly we are again shocked, here at The Price of Liberty, by this act and the incredible lack of action by local and State governments (and honestly, where are all the Federal agencies? Fish and Wildlife Service? Was an environmental impact study done before maltreating the bear as per EPA requirements?Where was the Department of Justice? (After all, if the bear was not a border jumper, then he must be a Native American and not just black!)

Government, much of the time, is nothing but a clown show. Incidents like this one show that private action is usually far more successful. And one thing government does best is lie and fail to enforce the very laws they pass and are supposed to enforce.
