The Science Channel goes “far out”

The Science Channel’s Thursday night (5/23/19) showing of NASA’s Unexplained Files presented some bizarre speculations, all of which I found intriguing.
The first segment postulated that a molten planet, found recently in NASA’s search for planets, orbiting Gliese 436 b, showed opportunities for life; the planet formally named Janssen after the telescope pioneer, may have evolved a robotic AI “species” that could be scouring the cosmos, with the ability to subsist and “procreate” using volcanic entrances for molten materials, the scientists actually referring to numerous reports of UFOs seen near or entering Earth’s volcanoes.
A second segment told how scientists, today, were looking, again, at the work of Velikovsky – something I’ve mentioned here a few times recently: his views of planet formation and the affect of planetary collisions being the cause of Noah’s flood and the plagues that afflicted Egypt at the time of the Biblical Exodus.
Water on the moon and a possible Russian “death ray” (created from Nazi materials the Soviets captured after World War II) also filled out the show.
The show’s spokespersons were, as usual, a retinue of notable physicists and scientists often hosting the channel’s programming.
But what surprised me were the obtuse revelations or speculations proffered by credible scientists, something I hail but think need caveats when thrown out from what is supposed to be a reputable source of science news.
The History Channel is the prime example for information molded (sometimes falsely) to create a meme or “truth.”
That the Science Channel is skirting such behavior is a bit disappointing.
With all the foolishness on the Internet (web), one more area, TV, where speculation is posing as fact presents a need for all of us to select and provide clarification of material that is iffy or seems iffy.
I’m not sure my fellow bloggers are doing that.
N.B. The patch atop is from John Denver, online.
