Boston Red Sox CEO calls out Chicago Cubs prized free agent
The Chicago Cubs big offseason acquisition was third baseman Alex Bregman. A year after the Cubs’ pursuit of Bregman failed, they finally landed their guy via free agency, adding a big bat to the lineup.
With Kyle Tucker not returning, adding Bregman was important for the Cubs. It not only gives them that legit bat in the lineup but also adds more depth in the infield.
Bregman spent the 2025 season with the Boston Red Sox and while the AL East power would have loved for him to return, it just wasn’t in the cards. But now, there might be some hard feelings between the Red Sox and Bregman’s decision.
Red Sox CEO calls out Alex Bregman
On Sunday, Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy was asked if the team was against offering no-trade clauses in negotiations. That question included Bregman due to the report of the Red Sox not including one in their offer to him. The answer? Well, Kennedy didn’t hold back.
“If Bregman wanted to be here, ultimately, he’d be here,” Kennedy replied, adding that he preferred not to discuss “organizational policy and the finer points of negotiations” when asked a second time about no-trade clauses.
Kennedy didn’t reveal whether or not Bregman actually asked for one in his contract to stay with the Red Sox. Instead, he pointed to the theoretical card.
“It’s theoretical, right? It’s hard to know,” Kennedy said. “There’s many different parts of a contract negotiation. We did not come to an agreement. So obviously, he’s a Chicago Cub and wish him well until the end of the year.”
In the end, Bregman landed with the Cubs which has Chicago fans happy. As for the Red Sox, they are hoping losing out on him doesn’t impact their chances to make a run in the AL East this upcoming season.
