OTL: This Year’s UDFA Gem – Reuben Lowery?
In 20 out of the last 21 seasons, the Baltimore Ravens have kept at least one UDFA on their active roster to begin the regular season. Following April’s draft, in which the Ravens had 11 selections and used them all, the chances of a UDFA making the 53 in 2025 seemed remote.
Finding quality reps to make a name for yourself as a UDFA can be a struggle, especially for a cornerback like Reuben Lowery, who found himself in a loaded DB room that added three rookies through the draft. Lowery is a smaller-framed corner standing at just 5’9”, but doesn’t shy away from contact, totaling 128 tackles across five seasons at Tennessee Chattanooga.
It could’ve been deemed a long shot for Lowery to sniff a roster spot entering camp at the corner position, with fellow rookies Robert Longerbeam and Bihlal Kone both being selected in the 6th round. But due to unfortunate injuries as well as stellar play when given the opportunity, Lowery has not only turned heads, but has positioned himself for a real shot at the 53-man roster.
The Ravens’ top four at corner are all but set, with Marlon Humphrey, Jaire Alexander, Nate Wiggins, and Chidobe Awuzie expected to take those spots. Assuming the Ravens elect to keep six corners, it’s the remaining two that sit up in the air.
The saying “availability is the best ability” has been on full display throughout camp, especially over the last few weeks. The Ravens secondary has taken some hits early, and with “camp things” lingering to a number of veterans and young stars, it’s the young guns like Lowery getting valuable reps that they otherwise would dream of receiving. The 23-year-old has demonstrated his versatility at times, moving to safety and making contributions there.
Getting reps at safety on Wednesday, Lowery came up big, flying in to break up two passes and record an INT.
Lowery had two more PBUs, including a diving one to stop a rifled Devin Leary pass from finding Devontez Walker in the end zone. After the Ravens’ CB injuries, Lowery just needs to show he can hold up on special teams, and a roster spot should be his. https://t.co/JxJTq5XC4L

Showing the ability to play multiple positions at a consistent level is crucial for Lowery, and could potentially give him the upper hand on fellow corners T.J. Tampa and Jayln Armour-Davis. Armour-Davis has fought injuries throughout his career and finds himself on the bubble to make the final roster. Tampa missed most of his 2024 rookie season due to injury, but the second-year corner has put together a really solid camp to go along with a positive preseason performance, playing 80 total snaps and getting live game action for the first time in a while.
Head Coach John Harbaugh has already ruled out the same “scratches” from a week ago for Saturday’s contest in Dallas, giving Lowery, Tampa, and Armour-Davis another chance to show their worth to the team.
Limiting the big plays and playing sound special teams could ultimately land Lowery a spot on the 53-man roster.
