Knee-Jerk Reactions: Ronnie Stanley Signs 3-Year Extension

Ronnie Stanley re-signs

Per multiple sources including Dianna Russini and Ian Rapoport, the Ravens and Ronnie Stanley have agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension worth $60M with $44M guaranteed at signing.

Ronnie Stanley Re-Signs!

Ronnie Stanley lands firmly in the second tier of LTs and the Ravens keep Lamar Jackson’s blind side blocker. Seems like a win-win for both sides: Stanley gets a strong guarantee structure and the Ravens retain their biggest need. Baltimore is now free to go BPA in the draft with a few more years to find their next franchise LT.

Kevin McNelis

A major, MAJOR domino for the Ravens offseason just fell, and it falls in favor of the good guys.

Locking your bookend left tackle is a huge deal, and it allows the Ravens to not have to pursue a tackle with quite so much urgency in the Draft. That’s not to say that they won’t, but they can now choose to prioritize something else with their first-rounder. Ronnie Stanley’s play after recovering from the ankle injury that plagued him is commendable, and I’m just as glad to see him back on black and purple as I am to see him not sign with another AFC contender.

I’ll be interested to see what the structure of the contract looks like in terms of the cap hit for this season, as well as possible outs or restructures if his injury should return, but of course, fingers and toes crossed that we don’t have to worry about that. Baltimore’s cap space is going to be very limited for right now, so the Draft is big, but you don’t have to worry about pulling a starting tackle for this year out of this class at #27, and that’s a big deal.

This is about the contract I expected Ronnie Stanley to get. I wasn’t sure if he would get two or three years but $19-22M a year and a lot of guaranteed money makes sense.

While I think the fan base was over the top that he was a “must-sign” and we would be doomed without him, I’m glad it got done. He is no longer elite but he is still very good. It’s a tough position to fill and if he goes to free agency, the Ravens likely lose him, so it’s good that it got done.

Now we hold our breath that he can stay healthy the next two years. If he can, you evaluate the third year, but let’s get through two and cross that bridge when we come to it.

This was the number one priority for the Ravens bar none. This had to get done even if they had to go out of their comfort zone. Ronnie Stanley is a great left tackle, and he would have gotten similar money on the free agent market especially with the Patriots and Chiefs lurking to sign him if he did hit the open market. I am just happy it got done, as things were getting a bit uncomfortable as it dragged on.

HYOOOOOOOOJ.

20m per — I wouldn’t use the word “bargain”, but I feel like if Ronnie Stanley had wanted to extract every last dollar from his free agency, he could have gotten more.

Not quite a hometown discount, but maybe a hometown “not putting the screws to you” deal. A hometown reasonable price.

Tanner George

This is by far the most important decision of the offseason over at 1 Winning Drive.

The front office had been relatively quiet this offseason, not making any notable moves, but that all changed today. $60 million over three years is worth the price of retaining your starting left tackle when you’re firmly in your Super Bowl window. While an APY of $20 million initially feels a little bit steep, especially considering Stanley’s injury history, but it was smart for DeCosta & Co. to lock him up before other teams – particularly the Patriots and Chiefs – could get involved in a bidding war.

Perhaps my favorite part of this deal is the flexibility it gives Baltimore entering the draft. The Ravens will no longer be in a position where they have to draft for need at #27. Many have called for the team to add an edge rusher or safety in late April, and, with the offensive line secured, it feels like EDC could do just that.

Given the little cap space that the team was working with, I’m curious to see how the deal is structured. I feel like, to stay under the cap, we’re going to see the Ravens try to restructure some contracts or move on from other guys.

Overall, though, a really exciting deal to get free agency started, and it’s one that put a lot of my worries to rest. I’ll give it an A.

Nick Polinsky

This felt like a must-have for the Ravens in free agency. They’re already relatively inexperienced across the o-line and adding a new tackle or reaching onto the bench would have felt dangerous.

$20 million a year seems like a very fair price for both Stanley and the Ravens with Stanley coming off one of his best years. This is definitely one the Ravens were glad to get done especially with the Chiefs looming in the offensive tackle market.
