Woody: Roster is “One of Most Talented” Jets Teams Ever
With the firing of head coach Robert Saleh earlier today, many Jets fans responded by wondering aloud where GM Joe Douglas stood as far as his job security. Well, owner Woody Johnson may have given us a peek by offering quite the endorsement of the roster Douglas has assembled.
In speaking with reporters, Johnson referred to Douglas’ roster as “one of the most talented teams that has ever been assembled by the New York Jets”.
Now, we understand that an owner will sometimes offer up some lip service in support of a high-profile employee on thin ice, but this was far from that.
Johnson’s praise of the roster went a step (many steps, actually) beyond that. And if we’re being honest, Johnson isn’t wrong.
Aaron Rodgers, struggling as he may be, is still a far better quarterback than most who have suited up for Gang Green over the past several decades. And despite disappointing starts from many of their top players, Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, Sauce Gardner, DJ Reed and several others are viewed as top talents at their positions.
It was Saleh’s failure to get the most out of these players that got him fired and why Jeff Ulbrich has a chance to do some damage in his first gig as a head coach.
