With Ravens Coming Up, Add Bo Nix to Your Squad

Fantasy Wk 9

Welcome back to Tanner’s Top Free Agents! Even though it doesn’t really feel like it yet, the fantasy regular season is coming down to the wire; the decisions you make over the next couple of weeks will either make or break your playoff hopes. Thus, the waiver wire is more important than ever. With injuries piling up around the league, the free agent moves you do or don’t make will go a long way towards deciding your team’s fate.

With that, let’s get into the recap!

Recap

Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving had yet another strong showing on Sunday, posting a solid 15.4 fantasy points in Tampa Bay’s loss to the Falcons. While he only carried the ball nine times, turning those rushes into 44 yards, the rookie out of Oregon caught seven passes out of the backfield, adding an additional 40 yards to his tally. He’s been a really consistent producer over the past three weeks, averaging 16.9 points per game. That’s reflected in his rostership, which has skyrocketed to over 68%. Still, it’s worth a look to see if he’s still available.

Cedric Tillman – WR, CLE (16% rostered)

Since the Amari Cooper trade, Tillman has stepped into the spotlight and really taken advantage of his opportunity out in Cleveland. In Week 7 against Cincy, he hauled in eight of his twelve (!!!) targets for 81 yards on an 18.1-point day and exploded Sunday against the Ravens, catching seven balls for 99 yards and a pair of touchdowns, good for 28.9 points. The Browns’ passing game appears to be rejuvenated by Jameis Winston, and it certainly seems as if Tillman will play a significant role down the road. I’m highly encouraged by his volume, and despite him being a deep threat, he has a chance to become a consistent fantasy contributor down the road. I have him labelled as a fringe FLEX play for now, but there’s a good chance that he establishes himself as a set-it-and-forget-it WR3. Add him with confidence.

Bo Nix – QB, DEN (36.7% rostered)

This fantasy season has to be the year of the rookie quarterback: Jayden Daniels, Caleb Williams, and now… Bo Nix?! The Broncos’ rookie passer simply lit up the Carolina secondary on Sunday, tossing a trio of touchdown passes while adding one on the ground en route to a 29.8-point day. Nix has been far from the most consistent fantasy QB, but his numbers have been trending up in recent weeks, eclipsing 20 fantasy points in three of his last four contests. Adding him as an insurance option on the bench could prove to be a really strong decision by the end of the year, especially if you’re thin at the position. Next week, he takes on a Ravens secondary that, as we all know, has been struggling greatly, so starting him now isn’t the worst idea in the world. As the season rolls on and bodies begin to breakdown, you may very well find yourself in a situation where you’re without your starting quarterback, but adding a guy like Nix can help give you some peace of mind.

Jalen McMillan – WR, TB (41.7% rostered)

With both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin having been lost to injury, the Bucs are expected to turn to Jalen McMillan as their WR1. His performance on Sunday wasn’t overly spectacular (9.2 PPR points), but there’s reason to believe that his numbers will only go up from here. McMillan attracted seven targets from Baker Mayfield in the loss to Atlanta, catching four of them for 35 yards. He also got involved in the ground game, carrying the ball once for 17 yards. While it doesn’t look like he’ll be the number one overall threat in Tampa’s passing game (that title belongs to tight end Cade Otton, who had a whopping 29.1 points), I anticipate McMillan moving into a role where he’ll be in a position to put up around 12 fantasy points a game. That’s not a bad number, especially if you’re in a deeper league or are desperate at receiver. Stash him if you can.

As always, good luck to you and your team!
