The “Buy Low” Options are Dwindling for 2024 Ravens
The Ravens beat the Washington Commanders 30-23 in a game that never really felt that close. I don’t know about you, but personally, I was never worried about the Ravens losing. The tipped interception and bad snap by Tyler Linderbaum prevented this from being a double-digit win. There is a lot to praise to go around, and not much on the other side of the ledger.

Stock Up
Lamar Jackson
This is the best Lamar Jackson we have ever seen. He can do whatever he wants. He is in complete control of this offense and seems as comfortable as ever. On top of that, his leadership is off the charts. Of course, he has to show this level of excellence in the playoffs, but he is set up better to do that now than at any previous point in his career.
Offensive Weapons
Speaking of Lamar, a big reason for that comfort and success is that the current group of WR, TE and RB is the best of his career. You have the best RB in the league, the best TE room and Zay Flowers and Rashad Bateman are both playing very well. These guys are making it easy for Todd Monken to call plays and the execution is spot on.
Offensive Line
As I said all offseason and early in the season, the Ravens will figure this out. Roger Rosengarten has locked down RT and Daniel Faalele has improved. Andrew Voorhees was active yesterday after missing some time but Patrick Mekari has played well, so its understandable that they stuck with the configuration from Cincy. I think Voorhees will still fit into the line long term though. Ronnie Stanley and Tyler Linderbaum continue to play at All-Pro levels. They are giving Lamar ample time to throw and the run blocking has been excellent.
Play Action
According to PFF’s Gordon McGuinness, Jackson was 9-for-10 for 155 yards off of play action. On ESPN’s Get Up, Dan Orlovsky showed film where the Commanders kept one single high safety and wanted to have one more guy in the box than the Ravens did. This was an attempt to stop Derrick Henry. Well, not only did they not stop Henry, the Ravens were able to use play action and Lamar picked them apart with ease. The presence of Henry and Lamar’s ability to run makes the play action game almost impossible to stop.
Derrick Henry terrified the Commanders out of their comfort zone and Lamar Jackson made them pay for it.

Yannick Ngakoue
Welcome back! Yannick Ngakoue was excellent in his first game back against Cincinnati and he showed well again on Sunday, getting a sack and getting into the backfield on multiple plays. He isn’t likely to play a lot of snaps week in and week out but his impact could be much needed. He looks good so far. Solid in season signing. He was just added to the active roster so that another pass rush-needy team doesn’t poach him from the practice squad.
Stock Down
Roquan Smith’s Pass Coverage
Roquan Smith has been a fan favorite since his acquisition mid-season in 2022. Everyone was pumped when he was extended. His impact on the defense since he got here has been immeasurable. For Ravens fans used to Ray Lewis, he was almost a “52 Lite.”
The issue is that he plays a devalued position and if he’s not going to be very good in pass coverage, that becomes a liability. He is a big issue in the passing game right now. His PFF coverage grade going into Week 6 was below average and it isn’t improving after what we saw against Washington.
The Ravens need him to improve in this area, as teams are going to continue to attack him until he makes them stop.
David Ojabo
Ngakoue has come in and taken snaps from David Ojabo, and while he played well early in the season, he hasn’t done much the last few weeks. The talent is there and he is seemingly healthy right now but he needs to be productive in his limited chances or else he will continue to lose playing time. With two older pass rushers on the team, Ojabo being able to make an impact as the season goes on will be very important.
Mistakes
The Ravens had a season-low three penalties, which was great to see. However, they did have the tipped pass interception and the bad snap, along with the dropped pick by Ar’Darius Washington. The Ravens still scored after that drop but those are the types of plays that can cost you games. The Ravens could have scored 40 and made it a laugher, but these mistakes prevented that from happening.
