OTL: WRs on the Move – Do Ravens Really Need One?
There was a flurry of news around the NFL on Tuesday, but particular to Baltimore, the biggest story has been an unfortunate one, which Lacie Litz DeCosta addressed well:
Good morning #RavensFlock
I’m disgusted by the video circulating of the incident that occurred after our game on Sunday in Federal Hill. I will not repost it.Stay far away from this fanbase you do not represent us. Ever.
We have love in our hearts for the team and the city…
— Lacie Litz DeCosta (@DeCostaLacie) October 15, 2024
This behavior is shameful and frankly embarrassing for the people of Baltimore, and it cannot go unaddressed. It put a stain on Baltimore’s exciting win on Sunday, and hopefully will never be repeated again.
Moving back to the league’s news, there were two star WRs traded on Tuesday:

The #Raiders are completing a trade of star WR Davante Adams to the #Jets, sources say.

Ravens fans love their receivers (particularly when it comes to possible trades), so I’m sure many were unhappy to see these two taken off the trade market. That said, the Flock is quick to move on, and there’s another recurring name that many want to see in purple and black:

In reality, though, is another receiver really necessary? For starters, Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman have shown out in recent weeks.

Bateman’s numbers have been a bit less eye-popping, but he’s become a consistent contributor for OC Todd Monken’s offense, which is a huge development for the Ravens. Lamar Jackson’s trust in him continues to grow, and we haven’t seen nearly as many deep shot near-misses as had become commonplace between the two.
Further, Baltimore should start expecting contributions from rookie WR Devontez Walker shortly:

Altogether, the offense is looking fantastic. Is another mouth to feed really the best priority for EDC?
The Ravens will face the unit one notch higher in total points this Monday night.

The Buccaneers have been a surprise thus far, but they may not have a difference-maker to the level of Lamar. Former star LB Luke Kuechly spoke to Jackson’s play with Kay Adams recently:
Luke Kuechly on Lamar Jackson and the Ravens
“All Lamar’s really ever done is win games and score points and go to the playoffs. I just think they’re big, they’re physical, they know what they are. Lamar’s a problem” pic.twitter.com/wYaB6Z1cFk
— Kevin Oestreicher (@koestreicher34) October 15, 2024
Kuechly was known to be a major student of the game, so any praise from him is worth noting. And if that’s not enough, how about even more praise from an even more decorated NFL personality:
Former NFL HC Bill Belichick on Lamar Jackson:
“I think Lamar has done a really good job this year. Best I’ve seen him in terms of looking downfield when he buys time in the pocket. It’s not just pull it down and run.“ pic.twitter.com/rWmRnWYbfp
— Ravens Nation ð™‡ð™„ð™‘𙀠(@LIVERavenNation) October 15, 2024
The highest of all, though, could be the praise Jackson and the Ravens got from Mike Wilbon, who put himself out there saying Baltimore would upset KC if everyone’s healthy:
“The Baltimore Ravens, if Derek Henry and Lamar Jackson are healthy, are going to supplant the Kansas City Chiefs this year in the AFC.”
— Sarah Ellison (@sgellison) October 15, 2024
As we all seem to know, the key (aside from health) will likely be the defense. To take a step in the right direction, the Ravens added DE Yannick Ngakoue to its 53-man roster on Tuesday:
Yannick Ngakoue’s elevation to Ravens’ 53-man roster, as @AdamSchefter first reported, was only a matter of time. He only had one PS elevation left and teams started inquiring about signing him off of the Ravens PS as early as last week. The Ravens didn’t want to lose him.

If you’d like a deeper dive into Ngakoue’s impact in recent weeks, check out Cole Jackson’s video here:

To make room for Ngakoue, Baltimore did part with two recent draft picks:

It’s sad to see Pepe Williams leave after a disappointing start to his career in Baltimore, but the Ravens could be getting slot star Arthur Maulet back soon:
— Arthur Maulet (@ArthurMaulet10) October 15, 2024
Similar to last year, Maulet could be a sneaky “addition” to the team mid-season. He performed far better than expectations last year, and earned a new contract to boot. At the same time, the stats show that the secondary isn’t quite as poor as many have said. Rather, they’re actually sticking to receivers well:
Top 5 defenses in forcing tight window throws
1. DET (27.9%)
2. BAL (22.9%)
3. DEN (22.8%)
4. NYJ (20.7%)
5. CLE (20.6%)— Jrfortgang (@throwthedamball) October 15, 2024
The Ravens have faced some really good quarterbacks early in the season, and the pundits know it. Pairing the seemingly unstoppable offense with a talented, experienced defense puts Baltimore amongst the league’s top-5 teams:
The Ravens remain at No. 5 in ESPN’s Week 7 power rankings.
5-Ravens
11-Steelers
23- Bengals
29-Browns https://t.co/XmzryEmuzs— Jamison Hensley (@jamisonhensley) October 15, 2024
Where do you see the Ravens in the power rankings?
