Is the Law done away with? No. It will not be done away with until this present heaven and earth are done away with.
While it is true that the Law of Moses was made obsolete when Jesus was nailed to the cross and died for the sins of mankind (see Hebrews 8:13), the Law will not be done away with until this present earth and heaven disappear. Jesus came to fulfill the Law, which remains intact for this present heaven and earth (see Matthew 5:17-18). Then when the Alpha and Omega creates the new heavens and the new earth (see Revelation 21:5) a little over a thousand years from now, the obsolete Law of Moses will be done away with permanently and the new eternal order of things will apply as spoken of by the Book of Revelation, the Book of Ezekiel, and other books in the Bible. However, for those who belong to the High Priest Jesus, who is in the order of Melchizedek (see Hebrews 5:6), we can partake now of the eternal things, of the age to come. We can enter into the Most Holy of Holies in heaven via the blood of the Jesus. We are free now from the Law of Moses as we can now partake of the age to come by faith. That freedom however, does not give one a license to commit sexual immorality. That would be insulting the Spirit of grace.
am123,
Are you saying God the Father will and can change? He is not the same today and for ever?
A. Christ can only do what His Father does!
B. Christ kept the 10 Commandments exactly as He was shown by the Father.
that equation can only mean that God the Father in Heaven must keep the Law: and thus all in heaven must keep the Law, it is stated the Angels do.
if the Law is kept even in Heaven does this mean we are not to follow the example set by Christ and God the Father?? It is, do not do as I do,,, but do as I say???
Use logic, God the Father set up rules for everything, every existing part of creation operates by law, is it illogical to think God will not have rules as magnificent as the 10 Commandments all must live by for eternity. Thinking that way my friend is as illogical as it gets.
We are freed from the “works” of the law, the “works” that were added later due to the Israelite constant sinning. That is why Christ berated the pharisees.
If the Law, which define sin, is not eternal then God the Father could not have been righteous for all eternity. For God to be righteous for all eternity the Law must be also eternal.
The Law defines what is righteousness.
You will not break that logic.
What I am saying is according to the Word, the Law of Moses is only in effect for this present heaven and earth. When God creates a new heaven and new earth, the Law of Moses will be done away with. Logic or illogic has nothing to do with it, it is what the Word says.
First of all it is not Moses’s Law, Christ is the God in the Old Testament and He Used His existing Law as the key part of the old contract. His law existed from the beginning, How else could Adam sin? What sin is has never changed. Abraham is said to have kept God’s Commandments.
The old contract only gave physical blessing for obedience and death for disobedience. The Law simply codified what sin is. How else would one know? The contract is what demanded the death penalty, not the Law. Everyone misunderstands that fact. Christ said here is the Law everyone that transgresses My Law will incur the death penalty.
The new Contract Christ brought basically says, All have sin and come short of the glory of God and have earned the death penalty, I am sending My Son, who is sinless, to pay the penalty for each person. Once that payment has been accepted by the person, that person is no longer under the penalty of death. Thus no longer under the law, meaning under the penalty of the law.
The Law will always exist, what you are referring to is the time when there are no longer humans, then the Law will revert to spiritual only and no longer physical.
Again if righteousness is defined by the Law how else can God be Righteous without law explaining what it is?
If there is no law how can it be said God is righteous? God changes not so He is righteous for all eternity
The Law of Moses will no longer be in effect when this current earth and heaven are done away with:
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
—Matthew 5:17-18
Hebrews tells us the Law will eventually vanish:
“In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.”
—Hebrews 8:13
The Law of Moses will have fulfilled its purpose and will be done away with once God creates a new heaven and new earth. Then, Ezekiel’s temple will be the forever temple of God.
Ezekiel’s temple is a unique temple that is part of the new heavens and new earth.
The worship rules and regulations and temple design differ between the Law of Moses and Ezekiel’s temple. For example, the Daily sacrifice for the Law of Moses is 2 lambs. For Ezekiel’s temple, the Daily sacrifice is 1 lamb. For the Law of Moses, the Sabbath offering is 2 lambs; for Ezekiel’s temple, the Sabbath offering is 6 lambs and 1 ram. The New Moon offering for the Law of Moses is 2 bulls, 1 ram, and 7 lambs; for Ezekiel’s temple, it is 1 bull, 1 ram, and 6 lambs.
The temple equipment and designs are completely different. In Ezekiel’s temple, there is no Table of Showbread, no Golden Lampstand, no Altar of incense, no veil, and no Ark of the Covenant. The sacrificial Altar will be approached by a ramp from the east. Previously, all altars were approached from the south. The inner gates along with the Holy Place and Most Holies of Holies forms guess what? A cross!
The Temple of Ezekiel is the eternal Temple of God going forward for all time to come:
13 Thou shalt daily prepare a burnt offering unto the Lord of a lamb of the first year without blemish: thou shalt prepare it every morning.
14 And thou shalt prepare a meat offering for it every morning, the sixth part of an ephah, and the third part of an hin of oil, to temper with the fine flour; a meat offering continually by a perpetual ordinance unto the Lord.
15 Thus shall they prepare the lamb, and the meat offering, and the oil, every morning for a continual burnt offering.
—Ezekiel 46:13-15
You can tie Ezekiel’s temple together with the new heavens and new earth by comparing Ezekiel 47:12 with Revelation 22:2.
am,
I see your problem,
in Hebrews 8; 13, it is the contract that is going away.
Basic deal was obey my law and I will physically bless you.
If I am selling my house and it is under contract and the deal fall through, my house is still mine and is still there. The deal and the contract are dead and of no effect. The parts to the contract existed before the deal and will exist after the deal is completed or killed.
The old contract is no more, but that has no bearing on the Law or God’s ability to physically bless man, the two parts to the contract. The basic agreement is gone but it has nothing to do with the parts that are part of the contract.
Just because the contract is null and void the parts that were part of it still exist. The facts are the Law existed before the contract was signed and will exist after the contract is dead.
I spent my life with contracts I under this very well.
Just take the Sabbath, the 4th Commandment, that was created at the 7th and last day of creation week. it has existed since the day after man was created. Is that going away?
It is not the Law of Moses that has fulfilled it purpose, only the contract. The Law was only part of the contract, one half to be exact, the Law is not the contract! It is incorrect to say the law of Moses will no longer be in effect, only the contract which has been declared null and void.
I hope this will clean this up for you, I should realize most people have no clue when it comes to contracts.
