Oodectes – perhaps an Eocene kinkajou (genus: Potos)
These two taxa
took time getting togethe, and their interrelationship is not as secure as is typical in the LRT. Still this hypothesis is worth considering and seems to be a novel.

According to wiki/Oodectes
“Oodectes (“egg biter”) is an extinct paraphyletic genus of placental mammals from clade Carnivoraformes, that lived in North America from the early to middle Eocene”.
That’s all they wrote. It is not a well-studied genus, especially so after 2000.
Wortman 1901 first described this taxon.
According to wiki/Kinkajou
“The kinkajou (Potos flavus) is a mammal of the family Procyonidae, a relative to olingos, coatis, raccoons, and the ringtail and cacomistle. They are not closely related to any other tree-dwelling mammal group (primates, some mustelids, etc.).”
Here
in the large reptile tree (LRT, 2340 taxa) the North American Eocene Oodectes now nests alongside the longer-faced but otherwise similar Latin American extant kinkajou (Potos flavus). The absence of a prefrontal is part of the changeover.
Oodectes herpestoides
(Wortman 1901; late Paleocene to Middle Eocene) is a smaller sister to extant Potos, the kinkajou, in the LRT. That makes Oodectes an arboreal taxon not far from the origin of the placental 1 clade and thus not far from the origin of Carnivora and Primates.
Earlier Oodectes was aligned with the oreodont, Merycoidodon when a prefrontal was scored for Oodectes. Data is based on a line drawing at present.
