An overlooked clade of extinct tree shrews
Extant tree shrews
include the genus Tupaia (Fig 1) and all it variant species (Fig 2), along with Ptilocercus (Fig 1), a genus represented only by this single species.
Here
in the large reptile tree (LRT, 2338 taxa) these two are joined by three extinct taxa, Anagale (traditionally considered close to rabbits and rodents), Randinskya (traditionally considered a perissodactyl) and Microsyops (traditionally considered close to Plesiadapis.

These taxa share
a pair of robust, cone-shaped, sometimes truncated upper incisors. no canines, three premolars and four molars, the first of which is sometimes premolar-ish in shape.
These taxa nest in the LRT
between apatemyids + hedgehogs and moles + moonrats + shrews in the placental2 clade that includes rodents, rabbits and multituberculates, which means they might have a Jurassic history, as yet undocumented except by chronological inference from Jurassic multituberculates.
Housekeeping continues unabated.
