This is a tale from 2009.
An IT company in South Africa conducted a realtime experiment using a carrier pigeon named Winston to test the apallingly slow speed of its Internet service provider’s (ISP) ADSL line. The 11-month old pigeon flew 60 miles from the company’s call center in Howick to its office in Durban carrying a 4GB memory stick containing the files. Winston completed the aerial flight in one hour and eight minutes, and upload of the menory stick data took another hour to complete. The pigeon arrival and data download were completed but the ISP had only sent 4% of the data download over the same amount of time.
