The Lord’s Will…Be Done — Via the Wayfaring Gal

(10/12/2025)

What is the Lord’s will?

An important component of the Lord’s will is to do his commands.

The following are some of the first verses (and commands) I came across in my studies many years ago as I turned my back on the world:

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matt 6:33)

If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. (John 7:17)

Matt 7:13-14:

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (Matt 7:13)
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matt 7:14)

Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. (Luke 13:24)

What is the will of the Father?

John 6:39-40:

And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. (John 6:39)
And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. (John 6:40)

The latter verse (John 6:40) is one of the most direct instances of the Father’s will related to the revelation of Jesus Christ (1Pet 1:13). It is a confirmation of the words of Jesus in John 14:21 and Rev 3:20:

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (John 14:21)

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (Rev 3:20)

Along with these commands comes an understanding that the narrow way journey takes time, and calls for much patience as well.

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. (Rom 15:4)

The Scriptures tell us to be aware of what is required of us; but also to remember the promises, lest we become discouraged on our journey.

He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? (Mic 6:8)

In your patience possess ye your souls. (Luke 21:19)

And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; (1Thess 4:11)

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2Tim 2:15)

Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; (Heb 12:12)

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. (Jas 1:4)

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2Pet 3:9)

I cling to the following promises if (when!) I get discouraged on this amazing journey:

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. (Hab 2:3)

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: (Matt 7:7)

For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. (Luke 11:10)

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: (Phil 1:6)

For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. (Heb 10:37)

Jesus commands us to love the Lord thy God and love thy neighbour as thyself.

The problem is we do not have this type of love (divine agape love). We lost it at the fall in the garden.

To get this type of love back, Jesus gave us only one way to do so.

We must be born again via the Strait Gate and Narrow Way—a judgment walk—a requirement totally removed by today’s church.

But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. (Luke 11:42)

John 3:3-7:

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (John 3:3)
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? (John 3:4)
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5)
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (John 3:6)
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (John 3:7)

Jesus then gives us a mysterious description of the effect of being born again in the next verse, which is one that I’ve had on my wall for many, many years:

The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. (John 3:8)

In First Corinthians Chapter 13 Paul emphasizes the crucial need to be born again, in the Divine Agape Love of God (Charity in the King James Bible); and that everything else is vanity and profits nothing.

The Old Testament confirms:

Eccl 12:13-14:

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. (Eccl 12:13)
For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. (Eccl 12:14)

The one other thing I’ve learned in my years of study is that everything happens in its appointed time. We do not make the decisions of when something occurs; God is the One who is control, not us.

Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling? (Job 7:1)

The following video contains a wonderful song by Cody McCarver. I love his voice and how he writes about the Lord in his music. I pray everyone who listens and watches this video will appreciate these simple, basic and beautiful words of truth just as much as I do. It is what inspired me to make this lyric video and write this Blog post.

The Lord’s Will | Cody McCarver | Lyrics:

And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt. (Mark 14:36)

Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. (Luke 22:42)

LYRICS

The Lord’s Will

If you want to hear God laugh
Tell Him your plans
You don’t write the script
You’re in His hands

And if the sun comes up in the mornin’
It’ll be by His grace
So when I bow my head tonight
Here’s what I’ll pray

If it’s the Lord’s will
Let it rain tomorrow
If it’s the Lord’s will
Let the sun shine

If it’s the Lord’s will
I’m gonna follow
If it’s the Lord’s will
It’ll be fine

My daddy died in prison
But I believe
That God answered my prayers
He set my daddy free

And even though He may not have answered
The way I hoped He would
I can still say thank you Lord
It’s understood

If it’s the Lord’s will
It’ll rain tomorrow
If it’s the Lord’s will
The sun’s gonna shine

If it’s the Lord’s will
I’m gonna follow
If it’s the Lord’s will
It’ll be fine

Me and Grandpa
We used to talk under a shade tree
And he’d say
Lord willin’ I’ll live to plant a garden
In the spring

And he’d say
Lord willing the sun will get by
‘Cause if it ain’t the Lord’s will
It ain’t right

If it’s the Lord’s will
It’ll rain tomorrow
If it’s the Lord’s will
The sun’s gonna shine

If it’s the Lord’s will
I’m gonna follow
If it’s the Lord’s will
It’ll be fine

If it’s the Lord’s will
It’ll rain tomorrow
…It’ll rain Tomorrow…
If it’s the Lord’s will
Aw, the sun’s gonna shine
…The sun’s gonna shine…

If it’s the Lord’s will
I’m gonna follow
…Gonna follow you Lord…
If it’s the Lord’s will
It’ll be fine

If it’s the Lord’s will
Oh, it’ll be fine

Can two walk together, except they be agreed? (Amos 3:3)

And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. (Matt 10:38)

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. (Luke 9:23)
