Some years ago, Mitch “The Bitch” McConnell, and some other “Official” visited Ft. Knox with a few Media people, and cameras. The vault (one of several, I think) was opened, and the gold bars were stacked against the wall, six or eight feet high. “That’s bullshit”, I said. Every other picture I ahve seen shows the gold bars on pallets, maybe three feet square and less than a foot high. The pallets are moved with small fork lifts. The loose single bars stacked haphazardly against the wall shown to the Media was a prop. Probably wooden blocks painted with gold paint.
A similar scenario unfolded in Las Vegas some fifteen or twenty years ago. A precious metals dealer announced the sale of gold bars to the public, and said the gold you bought would be held in their own vault. You could go see “your” gold any time. They even had a genuine gold bar used as a prop. People bought millions of dollars worth of gold. At one point, someone went to the office to see “their” gold. The office was locked, so they waited, and waited, and waited. Other investors showed up, and finally called the police. The office was opened, and they went to the outer wall of bars. and, thank goodness, the stack of gold bars was still there. Nope. When the door was opened by a locksmith, the “gold” bars were wooden blocks painted to look like gold. I don’t know if they ever caught the perpetrators or not. I moved from LV a few years later.
