The conflict in the Middle East, the Rapture, and what's next on the prophetic horizon

The crisis in the Middle East IS setting the stage for the Rapture, but likely will not immediately usher in the Rapture.

Many believe the Rapture is imminent–I believe we should live like it is, but we should also be mindful of   1) What the Bible says will likely come first and   2) how we can help those who will be left behind.

Regarding point #1:  It is likely the Rapture will come just before or just after Gog-Magog war referenced in Ezekiel 38-39. In that conflict, it appears that Russia will lead a coalition of forces from the North to attack Israel. Outgunned and outnumbered, Israel will almost be destroyed, but at the last minute, God will intervene, and attacking forces will be supernaturally destroyed.

Most believe that can not happen now because, in that battle, it appears that America is too weak to provide  assistance to Israel (right now we have several carrier strike groups, planes, troops, and other assets in the area). Also, when the attack comes, Israel is at peace. That fact leads many to believe the conflict with Hamas will likely escalate and spill over into Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and beyond (we are seeing the beginning of this now). In the course of expanding conflict, Damascus will be destroyed (Isaiah 17) and Israel will be at relative peace with her (defeated) neighbors.

Note that Daniel 9:27 indicates that the man who will become the Antichrist will usher in a peace agreement, which will likely allow Israel to rebuild the Temple on the Temple Mount (which again, indicates that nearby Arab enemies will no longer be a threat to Israel). 

Therefore, the likely turn of events (which could unfold quickly) are…   1) the current conflict will expand    2) Damascus will be destroyed    3) Israel will prevail militarily    4) something will happen to weaken America such that when Russia leads a coalition force to attack Israel (“for spoil”–natural gas??), America will give a warning but little more. Perhaps America will be engaged in a conflict with China/Taiwan/N. Korea, ???    5)  a charismatic world leader will step on to the world stage and broker a peace agreement with Israel and her enemies     6) Russia will lead a coalition of forces to attack Israel. God will supernaturally intervene and Israel’s enemies will be destroyed.  7) Sometime between the events profiled in points 4-6, there will be a Rapture, meaning Christ will come and catch up and take away His faithful followers BEFORE the tribulation and the events profiled in the book of Revelation unfold

Regarding point 2:  Believers have a spiritual obligation to care for those who will NOT be taken in the Rapture–the many whom Scripture notes will be a part of a great last days revival. These tribulation saints will endure great persecution and hardship…and with the church gone and Christian resources and programming banned by the Antichrist, one wonders how they will learn and grow to be the mature believers they will need to be to withstand the unprecedented difficulties they will face.
