The True Vine & the Branches of Salvation

THE TRUE VINE AND THE BRANCHES

The Gospel of Salvation: Part 1

The story of Adam and Eve is a basic Bible story and is probably known by most everyone.  The simplistic plot is Eve was deceived by a Nachash (a glowing, winged, serpent-type entity) and convinced to disobey the command of God then afterward Adam followed suit.  According to Paul, this disobedient act instituted the “law of sin and death.”  Sin and corruption entered Creation and the human race and everyone inherited this propensity.  See The Nachash in the Garden of Eden for more information.

For the law of the life-giving Spirit in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.  (Romans 8:2 NET)

After some investigation, I discovered there is not an actual written law of sin and death.  It is a Biblical principle validated in many places throughout Scripture as described in Wuest’s Word Studies.

Kenneth Wuest:  The law here is not a written law but a regulative principle which exercises a control over the life of the believer. This regulative control over his life is exercised by the Holy Spirit. This control is in the form of the energy given the believer both to desire and to do God’s will, this energy coming from the life that God is, which in the believer is given him by reason of his position in Christ Jesus.

The Ransom

Jesus gave His life as a ransom.  Through the ransom, the Son of God paid the price of sin resulting in death owed by all and set people free from the law of sin and death, but there is a catch – we must confess our sins, repent, and follow Jesus into the Kingdom.  One must desire to be set free and become a willing subject of the King (or a citizen of the Kingdom).  It is not an automatic endeavor.

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”  (Mark 10:45 NET)

For there is one God and one intermediary between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, himself human, who gave himself as a ransom for all, revealing God’s purpose at his appointed time.  (1 Timothy 2:5-6 NET)

The sacrifice of the Lamb of God not only cleared one’s debt ledger but it also cleanses us from all confessed and repented sin.

But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we do not bear the guilt of sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous, forgiving us our sins and cleansing us from all unrighteousness.  (1 John 1:7-9 NET)

The Kingdom

The Gospel According to Jesus: Unwrapping Centuries of Confusion by Marc Carrier  Yet today, the gospel that is preached concerns only Jesus’ substitutionary death for our sins—rarely about His Kingdom. As a result, many evangelicals don’t even know what the Kingdom of God is.

Contrary to popular opinion, salvation is not achieved by believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, even demons know that fact.  That fact is important, but it is not the Gospel of salvation.

You believe that God is one; well and good. Even the demons believe that — and tremble with fear.  (James 2:19 NET)

It is also not by merely asking Jesus into one’s heart during an altar call and then go home to watch TV and drink a 12-pack.  The salvation Gospel is to repent and follow the commandments of Jesus Christ (the will of the Father).  In other words, become a citizen or subject of the Kingdom of God.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven — only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.  (Matthew 7:21 NET)

The first message of John the Baptist was, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near” (Matthew 3:2).  The Gospel of Jesus was and is the Kingdom of God or the Kingdom of Heaven, depending on the Gospel writer.  In the KJV, the Kingdom of God is stated 79 times and the Kingdom of Heaven has 33 instances, mostly in the Gospel of Matthew.  The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is very important as the ultimate sacrifice for sin and for the atonement of human beings to satisfy God’s requirement for justice, but to qualify for salvation, one must follow the life of Jesus and enter into the Kingdom of God.

ATONEMENT:  1. Amends or reparation made for an injury or wrong; expiation.  2. An individual’s reconciliation with God by means of repentance and confession of one’s transgressions. 3. The reconciliation of God and humans brought about by the redemptive life and death of Jesus.

God has provided a way for humankind to come back into harmonious relation with him,

The purpose of the atonement is this: to restore our hearts back to God in true repentance, turning away from sin and towards holiness and righteousness. Our salvation is as sure as our changed heart.

Is the Kingdom of God (or Heaven) something that will occur at the return of Jesus as some claim and preach?  Is it not present today?  If it is present, is it only a spiritual kingdom?  The Kingdom of God has a king and he sits in heaven at the right hand of God the Father.  The king is always present to the citizen through the Spirit of God or the Holy Spirit.  It is generally understood the king will be physically present on earth during the Millennium.  Would it matter if He were present today?  To some, yes, to many others, probably not.  At the end of the Millennium, Satan is released for a short period and he deceives the nations for a battle against God.  The number of the warriors is listed as the grains of the sand in the sea (a large amount).

Revelation 20:7-9 NET  Now when the thousand years are finished, Satan will be released from his prison  (8)  and will go out to deceive the nations at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to bring them together for the battle. They are as numerous as the grains of sand in the sea.  (9)  They went up on the broad plain of the earth and encircled the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and devoured them completely.

Many people will not honor the Kingdom of God even if the King is present.

The True Vine

John 15:1-5 NET  “I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener.  (2)  He takes away every branch that does not bear fruit in me. He prunes every branch that bears fruit so that it will bear more fruit.  (3)  You are clean already because of the word that I have spoken to you.  (4)  Remain in me, and I will remain in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.  (5)  “I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me — and I in him — bears much fruit, because apart from me you can accomplish nothing.

Jesus is the true vine and God the Father is the gardener.  The Father removes (takes away) all non-fruit bearing branches.  The branches that remain are pruned (literally means cleansed) so they will produce even more fruit.  The pruning maximizes fruit bearing, exposes counterfeits, and maintains the citizen’s dependence on God.  The branch must remain in the vine (Jesus and the Kingdom) to bear fruit.  Those apart from Jesus and the Kingdom can accomplish nothing.  Remain (follow) Jesus and He will remain in you (salvation).  True salvation is both an initial and a continuous response. This theological truth is often ignored in our enthusiasm for personal assurance of salvation.  Fruit bearing (and salvation) requires always being a part of the Lord.

Those claiming to be Christian but do not follow the commandments of Jesus as a member of the Kingdom of God will be thrown out and become a piece of dry wood.  At the return of the Messiah, those dried branches will be gathered and burned (thrown into the fire), a parallel to the parable of the wheat and tares.

If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown out like a branch, and dries up; and such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire, and are burned up. (John 15:6 NET)

Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  (Matthew 7:19 NET)

The Gospel According to Jesus: Unwrapping Centuries of Confusion by Marc Carrier.  Our invitation to the Vine comes by grace through faith, in repentance and baptism. We remain on the Vine by abiding in Christ. Abiding in Christ is maintaining our obedient love relationship with Him (see John 15:10 below and John 14:15 and 21). There can be some level of obedience without love, but there is no love without obedience. And without such fruit, the branches will be cut off and thrown into the fire

The earth is empty for the 1000 yrs. Hence the bottomless pit that satan is left in.

The Commandments of jesus are the same as the Commandments of God. The Ten Commandments that even the angels in heaven knew and obeyed. The Angel that spoke to Moses and gave him the Law was Jesus.

There is only one definition of sin given in the Bible.. disobeying the holy Law of God.

The same Law that 99% off the churches teach was done away with at the cross.

      • am123

The world is not empty during the 1,000 year Millennial Reign. The saints will rule and reign with Jesus for those 1,000 years:

“And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.”

        —REV 20:4

If the earth were empty, there would be no one to rule and reign over. But lo and behold, the number of mortals upon the earth at the end of the 1,000 years number as the “sand of the sea”:

7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

        —REV 20:7-8

The earth is empty for the 1000 yrs.

You should stop inventing scripture and read that which is already written.
I won’t waste my time refuting that ridiculous comment.
      Nice outfit.

        Ephraim “Nice outfit.”

Yes, you can buy one really cheap at every fancy dress outlet. Vicar and Tart parties are very popular.

“Sin and corruption entered Creation and the human race and everyone inherited this propensity.”

That argument only works if the ‘Creator’ is not all knowing. The bible claims IT is all knowing, so would have known what was going to happen, but did nothing to alter the outcome. IT all knowingly set us up to fail.

You can’t have it both ways, is IT all knowing or not… which is it?

      • Pix

Add: If IT is all knowing then everything without exception is deliberate. All inflicted evils are deliberately intended. Given our reality of a flawed planet with it’s million and one ways to end our lives before our time, our genocidal kings and their self serving politics, and the fact that IT sits idly by watching theist and atheist alike die in the most appalling ways, IT would be more evil than all the demons combined.

Try thinking with that otherwise useless lump of fat between your ears, at least occasionally.

          Dear Pix,
I would like to have a logical scriptural answer to your comments, but, alas, there is not one. An all-knowing God and a deliberate pre-planned evil world of God is not the same thing. Knowing future events and instigating future events are two different concepts in my mind. Attempting to analyze the concept of God with human philosophical reasoning is a failing endeavor in my opinion, although several so-called elites have attempted to do so.

God has allowed humankind to have certain information about Him and His plans but not all information is given to us. I suspect we couldn’t comprehend it if we were given every answer we desire.

Although I can’t satisfactorily answer you, or myself for that matter, I personally have no real problem with the fore-knowledge of God. I have never visually seen Jesus (God as a man) although I believe that many did see Him and talk to Him during His sojourn during the first several years of the AD era, as we mark time periods. I believe that He was sent as a ransom for all people, died a horrible death as the ultimate sacrifice for all people, and was resurrected as proof that all will be resurrected – some to eternal life and the rest to the lake of fire. Why this is so? – I do not know. Why was it even started by God while knowing in advance the sequence of events? – I do not know. What I do know, and believe by faith, is if I repent of my sins (transgressions against the laws of God), follow the commandments of Jesus Christ (found in the Sermon on the Mount – Matthew chapter 5), and remain in the Kingdom of God, I will attain eternal life.

        • Pix

          Ephraim

” An all-knowing God and a deliberate pre-planned evil world of God is not the same thing. ”

Yes it is, you can’t have it both ways, is your god all knowing or not.. which is it?

If IT is all knowing then freewill can’t exist, we are left with predestination to follow the know future exactly like preprogrammed Simsw. Meaning IT is playing a game of dollies.

        • Pix

          Ephraim “.. .. .. I will attain eternal life.”

According to the bible we already have eternal life. After this one has ended, either to eternal damnation or eternal paradise. Trouble is the only description of the afterlife in the bible is ‘fawning without pause for all eternity’, which sounds exactly like hell to me. Such a selfish narcissistic monster deserves nothing at all.

In any case we will all end up in hell, any eternal existence no matter the initial conditions would become a hell sooner or later. I would give myself, being generous, a thousand years before begging for oblivion. How about you, a million years, a billion, a trillion?. I doubt you would even remember you were once alive after a million years, let alone a human being. It’s all way too childish being afraid of death, afraid of oblivion, of nothing.

        • maxxy

pix….Evil world, huh? It seems perfect to me…..
Every person gets what he is prepared for. You me them…everyone….If evil is in your mind, evil will find you. It’s all in your particular POV…..You and I have gone through this before…
Your world IS your world…It only goes as far as you can reach, and grasp You can share your evil outlook with your close friends and family but you have no effect on anyone else. I can die…. and it makes absolutely no difference, except to my family and friends. Here today and….On this planet, we all are mortal.
You seem to put an extraordinary value of human life over eternal life. That’s your POV….live with it….as long as you can…..(that’s not very long in the big picture.) You are one little person in a big world, which is a tiny speck in the eternal, And we all assume the status, in the eternal, we have prepared for ourselves….some with spiritual assistance and most with only a human, temporary understanding of circumstances…..leading to oblivion. How can you get anywhere if you don’t know about it?

        • Ephraim

Very little is said about life in the Millennium. After reading several website posts, I have become convinced that people will live on the earth, not in heaven (as the 7th Day Adventists conjecture). The many mansions spoken up by Jesus in John 14:2 will be in the New Jerusalem that ascends to earth. The saved (or redeemed) will have (glorious?) bodies as of Adam and Eve prior to their disobedience. They walked around, Adam named the animals, ate food, and talked to God on occasion. They could have planted a garden and raised children. I don’t think people will be naked. Yes, I know there are a few verses that appear to have resurrected or glorified human beings in heaven around the throne of God because there is a mention of heaven, a group of believers, and a voice coming from the direction of the throne but it is never said that a crowd of humans are in the visual vicinity of God, but rather that John saw this scene enacted (a visualization) while he was temporarily spiritualized in the heavenly realm. The survivors will have houses, children, cattle and other animals, long lives, gardens, and food to eat. The glorified individuals may have the same if wanted.

Sharon will become a pasture for sheep, and the Valley of Achor a place where cattle graze; they will belong to my people, who seek me.
          (Isaiah 65:10 NET)

Never again will one of her infants live just a few days or an old man die before his time. Indeed, no one will die before the age of a hundred, anyone who fails to reach the age of a hundred will be considered cursed. They will build houses and live in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
          (Isaiah 65:20-21 NET)

    • Amminadab

      Ephraim :

Revelation 20:2-3, “And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.”

Bound = the same as saying “I’m all tied up, I can’t go with you.” It’s circumstances that will bind the Devil for the 1000 years. Reason this is true is, do you recall how the man possessed with “Legion” in Mark chapter five was able to snap chains that bound him in the graveyard outside of town? If a mere flesh and blood man has the ability to snap chains with Satan’s help, then nothing could bind Satan in this manner either, EXCEPT a removal of the ability to do as he wishes. Like those of us that are “all tied up” with work and unable to go someplace we desire. So, , and what are these circumstances that bind Satan from doing as he desires for the 1000 years?

Isaiah 24:1,3 “Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.”
Jeremiah 25:33, “And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.”

He can’t tempt anyone because they are all DEAD! They are BIRD FOOD!

Remember what this angel said earlier?

Revelation 19:17-18, “And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.”

By the way… Will the birds be done eating?

Jeremiah 4:23-27, “I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.”

      • Ephraim

        Your proof scripture #1
Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word. (Isaiah 24:1-3 KJV)

EMPTY and WASTE are essentially the same word
        Strong’s: baw-kah’
A primitive root; to pour out, that is, to empty, figuratively to depopulate; by analogy to spread out (as a fruitful vine):
Word Study: bāqaq: I. A verb meaning to empty; lay waste; be laid waste. It described the destroying of land (Isa_24:1, Isa_24:3; Jer_51:2), especially as an act of God. It has the meaning of to deflate or demoralize the spirit of someone (Isa_19:3) or to break or make void someone’s counsel (Jer_19:7)

Also note that inhabitants are scattered abroad – not completely and totally annihilated. The wrath noted in the Revelation makes it clear that most animals and people will be destroyed and all structures will be knocked down by earthquakes, particularly the last one.

        Your proof scripture #2
And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground. (Jeremiah 25:33 KJV)

This verse is speaking of the lack of maintenance for the dead – not that everyone is dead. There will be many dead and only a few alive.

“He can’t tempt anyone because they are all DEAD!” They are not all dead. This is at the beginning of the Millennium not the end. After 1000 years there will be many people alive to tempt. Are you saying “scripture is full of wrong information?”

        Your proof scripture #3
Revelation 19:17-18 I won’t print this one. It is merely referring to dead people that will be eaten by vultures and animals. Not that everyone is dead.

“By the way… Will the birds be done eating?” According to your theory, there should be no birds.

Your proof scripture #4 (I added a few verses)

I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it. The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.
        (Jeremiah 4:23-29 KJV)

Without form (a waste or a desolation)
        Strong’s: to’-hoo
From an unused root meaning to lie waste; a desolation (of surface), that is, desert; figuratively a worthless thing; adverbially in vain: – confusion, empty place, without form, nothing, (thing of) nought, vain, vanity, waste, wilderness.

        And void (empty)
        Strong’s: bo’-hoo
From an unused root (meaning to be empty); a vacuity, that is, (superficially) an undistinguishable ruin: – emptiness, void.

I considered it poor judgment on your part to take only a few misplaced verses and create a doctrine that no human life will be on the earth during the millennium. If that was the case, then why have a millennium? If the earth is devoid of human life and the saints are in heaven (which I suppose you presume) the Millennium as described in the Old Testament and the Revelation is a joke and a lie.

Here are a few scriptures indicating various groups of people on the earth during the Millennium. There are several others I did not include.

Then all who survive from all the nations that came to attack Jerusalem will go up annually to worship the King, the LORD who rules over all, and to observe the Feast of Tabernacles. But if any of the nations anywhere on earth refuse to go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD who rules over all, they will get no rain. (Zechariah 14:16-17 NET)

In the future the mountain of the LORD’s temple will endure as the most important of mountains, and will be the most prominent of hills. All the nations will stream to it, many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the LORD’s mountain, to the temple of the God of Jacob, so he can teach us his requirements, and we can follow his standards.” For Zion will be the center for moral instruction; the LORD will issue edicts from Jerusalem. He will judge disputes between nations; he will settle cases for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nations will not take up the sword against other nations, and they will no longer train for war. (Isaiah 2:2-4 NET)

You have appointed them as a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.” (Revelation 5:10 NET)

“In that day I will rebuild the collapsing hut of David. I will seal its gaps, repair its ruins, and restore it to what it was like in days gone by. As a result they will conquer those left in Edom and all the nations subject to my rule.” The LORD, who is about to do this, is speaking! “Be sure of this, the time is coming,” says the LORD, “when the plowman will catch up to the reaper and the one who stomps the grapes will overtake the planter. Juice will run down the slopes, it will flow down all the hillsides. I will bring back my people, Israel; they will rebuild the cities lying in rubble and settle down. They will plant vineyards and drink the wine they produce; they will grow orchards and eat the fruit they produce. I will plant them on their land and they will never again be uprooted from the land I have given them,” says the LORD your God. (Amos 9:11-15 NET)

Moreover, on that day living waters will flow out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea and half of them to the western sea; it will happen both in summer and in winter. The LORD will then be king over all the earth. In that day the LORD will be seen as one with a single name. All the land will change and become like the Arabah from Geba to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem; and Jerusalem will be raised up and will stay in its own place from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the First Gate and on to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses. And people will settle there, and there will no longer be the threat of divine extermination — Jerusalem will dwell in security. (Zechariah 14:8-11 NET)

In the future the LORD’s Temple Mount will be the most important mountain of all; it will be more prominent than other hills. People will stream to it. Many nations will come, saying, “Come on! Let’s go up to the LORD’s mountain, to the temple of Jacob’s God, so he can teach us his commands and we can live by his laws.” For Zion will be the source of instruction; the LORD’s teachings will proceed from Jerusalem. He will arbitrate between many peoples and settle disputes between many distant nations. They will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nations will not use weapons against other nations, and they will no longer train for war. Each will sit under his own grapevine or under his own fig tree without any fear. The LORD who commands armies has decreed it. (Micah 4:1-4 NET)

A wolf will reside with a lamb, and a leopard will lie down with a young goat; an ox and a young lion will graze together, as a small child leads them along. A cow and a bear will graze together, their young will lie down together. A lion, like an ox, will eat straw. A baby will play over the hole of a snake; over the nest of a serpent an infant will put his hand. They will no longer injure or destroy on my entire royal mountain. For there will be universal submission to the LORD’s sovereignty, just as the waters completely cover the sea. At that time a root from Jesse will stand like a signal flag for the nations. Nations will look to him for guidance, and his residence will be majestic. At that time the sovereign master will again lift his hand to reclaim the remnant of his people from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the seacoasts. He will lift a signal flag for the nations; he will gather Israel’s dispersed people and assemble Judah’s scattered people from the four corners of the earth. (Isaiah 11:6-12 NET)

Ephraim…at the sound of the seventh trump, all are changed, in the blink of an eye, into spiritual bodies…..There are no physical humans after the sounding of the seventh trump.

You can repeat that as much as you want max, but it will never be true. The Word totally contradicts what you say.

I just read your theology on a 7th Day Adventist web site. On wonder you are so theologically messed up.
