Utility Systems to supply up to 40,000 Zambian households with smart water meters

June 4, 2015 (MMD Newswire) — MICROmega Holdings Limited, a South African company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange under the support services sector, is pleased to announce that its subsidiary, Utility Systems, has been awarded a second contract for its prepayment, domestic water management system by Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company Ltd, in Zambia.

The initial order of 9,000 units has a contract value of R15m and will be delivered in July this year. This order forms the first part of a new contract and follows the supply of 18,000 prepayment water metering units in 2012. A further order of a similar size, for the second phase of this project, is expected soon.

“Our unique water management system enables households to acquire prepaid water using Standard Transfer Specification (STS) tokens, bought through a variety of outlets, while ‘smart’, two-way communication and control of the water meter gives Lusaka Water the ability to set restrictions on consumption during drought. With leak and tamper control, our prepayment water meters improve revenue collection and reduce non-revenue water,” says Peter Rodseth, managing director of Utility Systems.

Utility Systems, a leader in the field of smart water management, is South Africa’s premier supplier of prepayment water meters and electronic water-control devices. The company currently commands about 90% of the electronic flow-limitation market in the SADC region. Its prepaid water metering system was the first to be approved by the STS Association, and is the only one with a proven deployment.
