NYHL Hockey Moms Get a Little Swag in Their Swagger
Press Release From the North York Hockey League February 12, 2015
North York Hockey League, CANADA’s LARGEST LEAGUE FOR HOUSE LEAGUE SELECT PLAYERS is joining forces with Scotiabank to give thanks to the thousands of moms who contribute so much to the league’s success. The THANK YOU MOM! campaign will begin February 16 and will run through Feb 23 in all of the NYHL’s 30 regular venues across the GTA. NYHL moms will be greeted at the door by League Officials and presented with a Scotiabank red bag filled with quality products, vouchers and coupons.
“Moms are really the unsung heroes of minor hockey,” said Paul Maich, chief operating officer of the NYHL. “Getting players to the rink and dressed, on time and ready-to- play is a big commitment of time and energy, not to mention money. We felt it was really important to recognize that effort and say a sincere ‘thanks.’”
When you stop to consider just how much goes into the operation of a successful year of hockey, and how much of that rests on the effort of Moms, it’s truly staggering. With 6000 players on 400 teams playing League, playoff, tournament and exhibition games we’re relying heavily on Moms to make the hockey experience a memorable part of growing up.
With all that in mind, the NYHL and Scotiabank have a simple message for the roughly 3000 NYHL hockey moms across the GTA: “We’re proud of our moms and putting a little swag in our swagger is our way of showing it.”
The NYHL has been in existence since 1953 and serves 32 Member Clubs in the Greater Toronto area who themselves have a total of 30,000 House League players six to twenty years of age registered with Hockey Canada. The NYHL has been in a period of unprecedented growth over the past five years and is now providing Select hockey from Streetsville to Scarborough and north to Vaughan, Thornhill and Unionville. The teams play a regular schedule of league games plus playoffs and in addition enter more than 1200 tournaments in Ontario, Quebec and neighbouring USA locations. The NYHL is a fertile training ground for the more than 1600 Coaches, Managers and Trainers who work the benches while upwards of 110 Referees and Linesmen patrol the ice.
