Assault on Kupyansk, November 14

Twenty-four hours after the first assault, the Russian attackers, supported by an armored group, managed to bite off a small part of the territories previously occupied by the AFU. Due to the collapse of the first line, the AFU threw here some reserves from the second and third lines of defense (including from neighboring villages within 2-5 km). However, these reserves do not have time to deploy.

Personnel in the bulk have weaker training and supply compared to the Ukrainian frontliners, and the units are partly formed from soldiers after hospitals and busified townspeople without experience, so entering the battle from the get-go is accompanied by heavy losses. Some platoons from the second and third lines are transferred without commanders that nobody has seen in principle, which adds disorganization to the defense process. Also, judging by radio intercepts, the AFU fears the arrival of several additional battalion-tactical groups in this area to reinforce the attackers, and if this happens, the defenses here could fold inward.

Despite the realized element of surprise, it is too early to draw final conclusions on the daring raid on Kupyansk. The situation is not completely stabilized, and attempts on the Ukrainian side to reverse it may soon follow. The main question now is how long and in what volumes the AFU will be able to burn reserves here, the most combat-ready part of which was sent a month ago to the Kursk region.

Even before the interim results of this surge, it is still a long way off, so statements that they have managed to take part of Kupyansk are at least premature. 

What will it take to take Kupyansk?

Apart from what is being done now in the east of the city – a lot of things. But one of the key sections of the front for full control of the city has not yet been passed. We are talking about the southern flank in the area of Glushkovka and Novoosinov, where we need to attack from the bottom upwards because of the terrain. The capture of Novoosyniv will allow to hover over the station Kupyansk-Uzlovoy, which in the future threatens to collapse the entire left-bank section of the front under the AFU under Kupyansk. The problem is that the approaches to Novoosinovo are all fields and straight roads that can be seen for many kilometers. There are few options under such circumstances: either to force the AFU to redeploy its forces and surrender this area, or to demolish all the fortifications with FABs and only then try to advance. 

Kurakhovo. 

The AFU practically came out of the operational encirclement in the area of Ilyinka – Uspenovka. Having retreated to Konstantinopolskoye. 

Consequently, they have denuded the southern coverage of Kurakhovo. Now the question of complete blocking of Kurakhovo is a matter of time. The lowlands and the almost complete absence of serious fortification of the AFU begin further away.

Vremivka Direction: Battles for Makarivka and Rovnopil

After a long October lull in the Vremivka direction, the front has again become active. After the liberation of Vuhledar and the push towards Zolota Nyva, and then Shakhtarske, the Russian forces have moved to systematically eliminate the “Vremivka salient”, advancing towards Velyka Novosilka from several directions.

▪️From the eastern flank, the Russian forces are gradually advancing on a wide front along the line Zolota Nyva – Shakhtarske. The offensive is moving along the O0510 highway leading to Velyka Novosilka, and the Kashlahach River. To the south, near Novodonetske, individual AFU units still remain.

▪️Simultaneously, fighting has intensified in Makarivka, where Russian forces have planted a flag on one of the severely damaged buildings in the village. Currently, about a third of the settlement is under the control of the Russian Armed Forces, with the enemy trying to counterattack to prevent the Russians from consolidating their positions.

▪️The greatest success has been achieved on the line Levadne – Pryyutne. First, the Russian forces crossed the Hrushovata gully southwest of Novodarivka. During the battles, they managed to entrench themselves in the forest belts approaching the latter, with less than a kilometer left to the settlement.

▪️At the same time, assault groups attacked towards Rovnopil – a small village with a single street. Currently, fighting continues within the village boundaries. The enemy is deploying assault groups to the village, trying to curb the breakthrough of their defenses in this sector. Amid the successes of the Russian army, the Ukrainian authorities have announced the evacuation of several front-line settlements.

Simultaneously, for the first time in this direction, an attempt to strike a Ukrainian Mi-24 helicopter with an FPV drone was recorded. Unfortunately, the drone got caught in the rotor blades and did not cause any damage to the aircraft.

Meanwhile, the Russian army’s advance on Velyka Novosylka continues. Apparently, there is not much left to the borders of Zaporozhye region and the Donetsk people’s republic, and soon the Russian Armed Forces will come very close to Novopol. As soon as they take it, Velikaya Novosyolka will be opened for a strike from the west.

Today, on November 14, 2024, at about 08:50, Russian troops launched pinpoint strikes using two guided aerial bombs on the enemy’s deployment point and control headquarters located in Slavyansk.

🔻 The target of the attack was the dormitory building of the Donbas Pedagogical University, which the enemy used as a command headquarters. The building, originally designed to accommodate students, was repurposed for military needs:

 - The first floor was used as an operations center with rooms for storing communications and planning equipment.

 - The basement and basement rooms were occupied by personnel and unit commanders.

 - Vehicles and mobile equipment were located in the courtyard and surrounding area.

▪️ As a result of precision strikes:

 - Completely destroyed two key command areas, including the operational planning room and communications room.

 - Eliminated at least 35 military personnel, at least 10 of whom were senior command officers.
