House Dems Plan ‘Discharge Petition’ outmaneuvering GOP on Ukraine Aid Bill

The Democrats smell blood in the water with the 3 or more Gopers who are unwilling to be counted on when the rubber meets the road for close votes such as the Mojorkas impeachment vote. The conniving Dems think they have found a way to parley this in a way to supersede Johnson and actually have Dem Leader Jeffries step in with the gavel for a vote on the Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan Aid Bill.

“House Democrats are prepared to use every available legislative tool to make sure we get comprehensive national security legislation over the finish line,” said Democratic House Leader Hakeem Jeffries last week. It’s about time he unleashed the prospect of a discharge petition in the House of Representatives, forcing a vote on aid to Ukraine and Israel.

Jeffries’ words suggest the end may be coming for the miserable Hastert Rule, the unofficial governing norm implemented by former Speaker Danny Hastert that holds the speaker only brings legislation to the floor if it has majority support from his own caucus. Comprehensive immigration reform was broken on this rule, among other important pieces of legislation.

A discharge petition allows a majority of the whole House to bring legislation to the floor, and would, in this fraught moment of political polarization, remind members of Congress that they may represent a district and a party, but they serve the entire country.

The Discharge Petition Route is not an easy path but will they try? I bet they will. Rumors started several weeks ago that they were putting this plan in motion. It explains the Dems insistence that the bill remain a “supplemental” as opposed to a stand alone bill.

As highlighted by Vance, House Democrats impeached Trump in 2019 over the latter’s decision to withhold foreign aid to Ukraine, including “$250 million through the … Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.”

Desperate to damage their primary political opponent, Democrats outlandishly claimed this constituted a “quid-pro-quo” because Trump expressed concern during a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over then-candidate Joe Biden’s family’s corrupt foreign dealings in the European nation.

According to Vance, the aforementioned Ukraine funds “expire on September 30, 2025 — nearly a year into the possible second term of President Trump,” meaning if the Republican president were to follow through on his pledge to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict and halt funding to Kyiv, the supplemental would provide Democrats with the opportunity to launch another bogus impeachment hoax.

CGI plans to announce the launch of the CGI Ukraine Action Network, as well as numerous financial pledges, to support nonprofits working in the country.

The CGI Ukraine Action Network is the result of a collaboration between Hillary Clinton and Olena Zelenska, first lady of Ukraine, that began last year. The new organization, which will be formally announced Tuesday, is designed to mobilize existing CGI partners, as well as new leaders from around the world, to create and finance new commitments for Ukrainians, according to CGI. Numerous monetary commitments for Ukraine are also set to be announced Tuesday.
