The Honey Island Swamp Monster has a multitude of nicknames. The people of Louisiana call this creature the Cajun Sasquatch or the Louisiana Wookiee. Some will just call this cryptid The Thing. The Honey Island Swamp Monster is seen mostly in the St. Tammany Parish area of Louisiana. Specialist Nicholas Highwalker who was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana claimed that in 1984 he heard a loud scream on the land near and around Fort Polk. Nicholas surveyed the land with his binoculars and saw the strangest sight. He believes he saw a Bigfoot type of creature chasing a dog looking creature. Nicholas says that it happened so fast and then they were both gone. In later years, Nicholas believes he may have seen the Honey Island Swamp Monster chasing a Rougarou. Special Note: a Rougarou is a Louisiana cryptid that looks like a werewolf. The description of the Honey Island Swamp Monster is that it has a gray coat of thick fur. It has yellow eyes and is about 7 feet tall, bipedal with webbed feet. Legend has it that if you smell a putrid odor, the Honey Island Swamp Monster is nearby. Marty Boulanger of Florida, an avid hunter that enjoys hunting in Florida and Louisiana, claims that the Honey Island Swamp Monster has the same putrid odor as the Florida Skunk Ape. Marty claims that he has smelled both cryptids during his hunts.
In 1974, Harlan Ford, a retired air traffic controller took up wildlife photography in his spare time and while out photographing wildlife came upon some large footprints. The footprints displayed 4 toes on each foot. Harlan made some plaster casts of the footprints. Harlan and his friend Billy Mills came across more footprints and followed the footprints to a dead wild boar with his throat slashed. Harlan believes this was the work of the Honey Island Swamp Monster. Super 8 Film that Harlan took of the footprints and dead boar was discovered after Harlan’s passing. Some people theorize that a traveling circus had some escaped chimpanzees that ran off into the Louisiana swamps. Most locals do not believe that story, because the Honey Island Swamp Monster is known to be 7 feet tall. Chimpanzees are known to be 3 feet to 5.5 feet in height. Daniel Richelieu of Shreveport, Louisiana claims that in 1992 while hunting, he saw a large black orb floating through the woods. The orb was the size of 2 basketballs. The orb was shimmering like it was made of water and then collapsed like water, displaying a Bigfoot type of creature that scampered into the woods.
