BEAUMARIS CASTLE HISTORY
On my train ride through the city of Cardiff, Wales, headed for London, I met Caden Cadwalader, a Welsh citizen that I am still in contact with via LinkedIn. Caden and I, had a nice conversation about his country and how there are so many “Roberts” in Wales. Roberts is my last name, and I was fortunate enough to meet a few Roberts at a local pub in Wales. Of course, I got into a nice conversation about haunted places in Wales and Caden told me that there are many places in Wales that are haunted. Caden claims that Beaumaris Castle is probably one of the most haunted castles in the world. The town of Beaumaris was originally a Viking settlement known as Porth y Wygyr (“Port of the Vikings”), but the town itself began its development in 1295, when Edward I of England, having conquered Wales, commissioned the building of Beaumaris Castle as part of a chain of fortifications around the North Wales coast.

THE HEARTBROKEN WOMAN & THE CURSED KNIGHT
Caden has visited Beaumaris Castle, which is located on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. Caden learned that the castle was haunted, with stories of a heartbroken woman and a cursed knight said to wander the castle grounds. The heartbroken woman is heard weeping on the grounds of the castle. Sometimes people actually see the heartbroken woman sitting on the grass with her hands on her face. She will look up at a person with tears in her eyes and then vanish. The cursed knight is sometimes seen walking around the grounds raising his fist in the air. Some locals who have seen the knight believe that he is angry about something. Bronnen Crowther who once worked the grounds at the castle saw the cursed knight swinging his sword towards the sky. It seemed he was angry at God. Bronnen watched for a bit and then saw the knight fade out into an outline of a man, then completely vanish.

THE GREEN-EYED SHADOW BEING
Legend has it that the famous Heartbroken Woman is of a medieval lady who lost her lover during one of the many sieges. Visitors to the castle have reported eerie sightings and strange whispers echoing through the castle’s corridors. As for the Cursed Knight, legend has it that he was cursed for his treachery, doomed to wander the castle grounds for eternity in rusted armor. Some visitors have reported heavy footsteps in parts of the castle when no one else is around, and shadowy forms moving quickly around corners. Caden says he has seen the moving shadows with his peripheral vision. He has also heard the whispers. The whispers sound female and Caden believes it is the Heartbroken Woman. Caden also says that nearby is Beaumaris Gaol. Beaumaris Gaol is also known for its paranormal activity. Visitors report dark, eerie shadows lurking in the corners. Caden says that he once encountered a shadowy figure with striking green eyes. The Green-Eyed Shadow Being circled around Caden. Caden felt instantly nauseated and dizzy. When the Green-Eyed Shadow Being left, Caden felt normal again. Strange chanting in the chapel area has been caught on recorders on many occasions. Reports of distressed screams have also been heard. Theory has it that these are the sounds of stonemasons from the past. People consistently report feelings of being watched in the long corridors, and an overbearing sense of loneliness is felt throughout. The gaol’s haunted reputation has attracted numerous paranormal events, ghost hunts, and ghost investigations.
