NASHVILLE, TN — On Wednesday, May 8, people from across the Tennessee Valley will gather in Nashville’s Centennial Park to “Rally for the Valley” after the Tennessee Valley Authority Board of Directors’ Listening Session. The federal utility is trying to rush forward the largest gas buildout of any utility in the nation by 2030, with eight methane gas plants and three pipelines proposed, planned or built in the last three years. The TVA board has the power to stop the costly fossil fuel buildout, and impacted communities are demanding action now.

WHAT: Rally and concert to oppose TVA’s planned gas buildout
WHEN: Wednesday, May 8, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. CT (following TVA’s listening session)
WHERE: Musician’s Corner, Centennial Park, 2500 West End Ave, Nashville, TN 37203
WHO: Community leaders on the frontlines of opposition to TVA’s gas buildout; local musicians Jonathan Singleton, Matthew Paige, Andrei Garthoff and Jaffee Judah; and special guests like Bill McKibben and Tennessee State Representative Aftyn Behn.

Organized by: Climate Nashville; Tennessee Interfaith Power & Light; Sunrise Nashville; Center for Biological Diversity, Appalachian Voices; Sierra Club; Safe, Affordable, Good Energy for Tennessee (SAGE TN); Preserve Cheatham County; Climate Reality Project: Memphis & Mid-South Regional and Nashville chapters; Memphis Community Against Pollution; and Third Act TN.

We encourage the media to also attend the TVA Board Listening Session held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. CT at the David Lipscomb University Shinn Center, 3906 Belmont Blvd, during which community leaders will address the board directly.
