‘F***ing Ridiculous’: Mayor Zohran Mamdani Breaks “Fast” with Muslim Inmates at Rikers Island

You have to be an absolute monster to be sent to Rikers Island. Mamdani’s constituency. But he won’t meet with the families of the people these violent criminals have killed or the the women they’ve raped or the NYPD injured in the line of duty. Just the criminals.

This is another fitting example of why many are fleeing New York City. The dynamic is nicely captured in the opening of a piece at Tablet magazine: “My breaking point wasn’t getting mugged,” Josh Greenberg, a digital media strategist who left Park Slope, New York, in early 2022, told me. “It was realizing the city had more sympathy for the guy that mugged me than they did for me.”

Editors note: The reason why I place “fast” in quotes is because you can eat like a horse in the morning and you can eat like a horse in the evening. I do not consider that a “fast.”

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani inspired anger after breaking his fast with Rikers Island inmates.

If one needed any more evidence that lawmakers in New York treat crime victims like trash, look no further. That’s what critics are saying after Mamdani publicly posted his decision to visit Rikers Island to break his Ramadan fast with inmates, correctional officers and others.

“Earlier this week, I broke fast at Rikers Island with New Yorkers in custody, Department of Correction staff, Commissioner Stanley Richards, and Councilmember Yusef Salaam,” he wrote. “It was a night that will stay with me for quite some time. People sharing what little they have: breaking bread, offering prayer, making space for one another’s dignity even in the hardest place. In a system too often defined by what it takes, I was reminded of what it means to give—mercy, dignity, and humanity. May we extend that mercy as far as we can. Eid Mubarak to all.”

This is a nice sentiment, if you ignore the reality of why those people are in that particular prison in the first place.

“You have to be an absolute monster to be sent to Rikers Island these days,” noted mystery novelist Daniel Friedman, a New York City resident. “Offenders on Rikers all have long histories of doing things so horrible that even the woke, pro-crime judges and prosecutors in NYC don’t want to be responsible for what they’ll do if they let them go. Mamdani went out to serve these murderers and rapists a catered dinner with rapist City Council member Yusuf Salaam. He loves these people and he hates Jews.”

“Criminals in prison are just ‘New Yorkers in custody,’ according to Mamdani. Why are they in custody? You don’t go to Rikers Island for nothing!” added Moshe Hill, Nassau County legislature candidate.
