Gary comments on several recent news items, hoping to bring a bit of sanity (and biblical worldview) to the cultural craziness.
Have you ever gotten into an argument with someone over a political, ethical, or religious question and found that you just could not come to an agreement? Maybe you saw a movie together and could not concur on what it was all about. You saw the same movie but “saw” it differently. Why the disagreement?
First, the difference could be one of perspective. Everyone sees things in a unique way because of unique experiences and interests. One of you might have watched the movie with an eye on the symbolic elements. Another might have watched looking for philosophical ideas. Someone might have evaluated it in terms of its story line and character development. These are differences of perspective. There is nothing wrong with having different perspectives. At this level, every perspective would make up a part of the whole. They could all be correct. A discussion would help you see different dimensions of the movie and enrich your understanding of it.
Second, your disagreement could be more fundamental. Your disagreement about the movie could be a dispute over presuppositions, those fundamental standards that we use to interpret life. Disagreements about issues often result from a more fundamental disagreement about the evaluating principles each person uses to evaluate the facts. The same facts are there for everyone to examine and appraise. So what keeps people from holding similar opinions when the same facts are common to all? At one level we know it’s a spiritual problem. In some cases God blinds their eyes (John 12:40) or hardens their heart (Ex. 4:21) so they will not understand (Matt. 13:13). In other instances, God gives “them over to a depraved mind” (Rom. 1:28). They couldn’t see the truth even if it bit them, because their reasoning processes are so distorted by sin.

The nursery rhyme “There Was a Crooked Man” is an appropriate description of how sin affects us and our world. We live in a crooked world of ideas evaluated by crooked people. Left to our crooked nature, we can never fully understand what God has planned for us and His world. God has not left us without a corrective solution. He has given us a reliable reference point in the Bible so we can identify the crookedness and straighten it.

The Catholic Church, SPLC, Charlie Kirk, transgenderism, and track and field all get a bit of analysis from Gary. He even closes the episode with a bit of health advice. It has something for everyone!
