Austria: Arabs Fighting Turks in Vienna

As we have previously reported, it seems that Austria’s migrant communities don’t get along all that well. The Chechens, Afghans, Turks, and Arabs (mostly young boys) all seem to be fighting it out, mostly on the streets of Vienna. On Tuesday of this week, some sort of disagreement broke out in Vienna between two groups of teenage Turks and Arabs-with an Afghan boy thrown in for good measure. Someone pulled out a baton and things went downhill from there. When it was over, police had arrested 6 youths with weapons drawn no less!

One of Austria’s biggest crime problems these days is the so-called “teenie gangs”, boys around the ages of 12-17 from migrant communities as listed above.

In Vienna on Tuesday, police arrested a gang of youths in the middle of the street. A dispute between migrant groups preceded the fight.

Caption: On Tuesday, around 8:30 pm, there was a fight in Mortara Park between a group of youths of Turkish origin and a group of teenagers of Arab origin. 

Spectacular scenes played out on Tuesday around 8:30 pm on the Allerheiligengasse (street) in the Vienna 20th District: Right next to the Lorenz-Boehler Hospital, 5 teenagers were brought to the ground by police-and with drawn weapons! Before that, the gang reportedly beat and chased a young boy.

In the nearby Mortara Park, the police operation was preceded by a fight between a group of youths of Turkish origin and a group of teenagers of Arab origin. Bystanders tried to break up the altercation, (but) it then completely escalated. 

Initially, one of the youths of Arab origin-a 14-year-old Syrian- suddenly pulled out a long object. According to witnesses, it was a machete. The machete turned out to be a telescope baton-with this, the attacker chased and struck his victim.

Then the perpetrators and his 5 friends -all 14-16-year-olds from Syria and Afghanistan- fled. Witnesses called the emergency number. Based on the detailed description, the officers were able to stop the group near the scene of the crime. A Lesereporter video shows the police operation.

In fact, the telescope baton was found in bushes near the location of the arrest-it is assumed that this is the weapon, the object described by the witnesses as a machete. The entire group of 6 youths was charged with suspicion of bodily injury, the 14-year-old was also charged with possession of the baton under the weapons law.
