Pro-Palestinian Chaos in Dutch Universities

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

RTL/ANP

It’s not just here in America where the lower social orders are causing chaos and disruptions in our universities. In the Netherlands, the Hamas supporters occupied the administration building at the University of Amsterdam. In addition, protesters at Radboud University in Nijmegen have occupied a bridge on campus and vow not to leave until the university breaks ties with Israel.

The article below from RTL News (nl) is translated by Fousesquawk.

Slogans scrawled

The occupation of Maagdenhuis is over, vandalism in building

Via RTL News  3 hours ago

An arrest and detention unit from the police and riot squad has ended the occupation by pro-Palestinian demonstrators. The University of Amsterdam (UvA) building has been occupied since 11 am by pro-Palestinian demonstrators. They have been taken out one by one, as seen by our reporter. Inside are all kinds of slogans written on the walls, as seen in the photo.

When the first demonstrators left the building accompanied by police, there was the sound of loud cheering and “you are not alone” from dozens of fellow demonstrators not far from the main entrance to the Spui (street in Amsterdam). Meanwhile, all the protesters have left the building. A police spokesperson says that these people, the exact number he does not know, are under arrest and have been taken to a detention center. Then they will be brought to court.

In the building, the administrative headquarters of the UvA, items were vandalized, walls were defaced, and barricades set up in front of doors, the reporter (observed). In an office, in black paint,  “Is the coffee still tasteful when you are supporting genocide?” was written. On other walls, among other things, were “Free Gaza” in red graffiti and UvA, cut off the ties now” in black. Furniture lay strewn around the building, displaced, on the floor, or stacked on top of each other.

According to a UvA spokesperson, a portion of the canteen has been plundered.

Sympathizers

Some of the fellow demonstrators who were showing their support for the occupiers of the university building, moved over to other buildings on the University of Amsterdam.  They went in the direction of the Oudemanhuisspoort and the Turfdraasterpad.

About 20 people had earlier left the building via a side door, reporters say. They were locked in by police, but it is unclear if they were subsequently arrested. A police spokesperson did not know where they were.

About 150 sympathizers who were outside chanted uninterrupted slogans, like “Free Palestine”. They were kept at a distance by riot police. That led to disorder as seen in these images.

Pro-Palestinian students are also holding a protest at Radboud University in Nijmegen. They say they will not leave the bridge on the Erasmus Square on the campus that connects two university buildings before the university breaks ties with Israel.

It is not clear how many people are here.
