This week in Paris, a 25-year-old Afghan asylum-seeker, identified only as Zalakahan S., is on trial for attempted murder, an incident that occurred in February 2022 in Paris. The news accounts below are a little tricky to follow, but it appears that the suspect was not immediately identified. Subsequently, in December 2022, the suspect was arrested and charged with raping a 13-year-old boy in the village of Croisilles, in the Pas-de-Calais region of France. As a result of the Paris charges, he was transferred to Paris to stand trial for attempted murder. During the trial, as has been reported this week, the defendant spontaneously admitted to the rape of the boy in Croisilles.

A 25-year-old Afghan, in the country illegally, on trial for attempted murder in Paris, admitted during the hearing to having committed another serious crime. He allegedly committed a rape of a 13-year-old boy on a public street in Croisilles, a small municipality in Pas-de-Calais.

The incident goes back to December 24, 2022, in the midst of Christmas Eve. According to the initial elements of the investigation reported at the time by several media, the 13-year-old adolescent was allegedly sexually attacked in the afternoon, near the stadium of Croisilles. The victim managed to escape and find refuge with a resident of the village, who alerted the authorities. The investigation, assigned to the Gendarmerie, quickly led to the arrest of Zalakahan S., already known to police services for prior violent crimes.

The suspect, who was residing in Croisilles at the time, had been kicked out of the municipal Center for Reception and Situation Examination (CAES) in 2020 for having threatened to kill an employee.

Attempted murder in Paris: Another charge

The hearing going on in Paris concerns another affair, which arose in February 2022. Zalakahan S. is accused of trying to stab a tourist in the neck in the capital, an act that led to his transfer from Croiselles and his being charged for attempted murder. During the course of this trial, the accused spontaneously admitted to the rape in Croisilles.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Arras, informed of the facts of December 2022, opened a judicial investigation for aggravated rape and theft because the victim’s mobile phone had also been stolen.
