I don’t believe Russia ever wanted to take any other country just Ukraine. Before they invaded, they sat on the border for a month saying Ukraine needed to agree they would not join NATO because they did not want NATO on the border of Russia and Ukraine would not agree so they invaded.
This brings back memories of 4 decades ago. On October 23, 1983. 241 of our marines/military were killed in an attack in Beirut. My fiancée was attached to the Dwight D Eisenhower, and they were heading home to Norfolk. The aircraft carrier and all of their ships turned around to defend the attack. Our wedding was planned for late November. We had to reschedule for New Years Eve.
