Following an incident where shots were fired from the Mexican side of the border toward a U.S. Coast Guard vessel, the U.S. military deployed roughly 500 troops to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. This domestic deployment, part of a mission named Operation Unified Resolve, was ordered to reinforce border security and assist federal law enforcement. No U.S. forces have crossed into or invaded Mexican territory.
