I was a practicing Roman Catholic for 30 years, right up to the moment I got saved, and from that point on I have been a born again Christian. All it takes is hearing the gospel of the kingdom of God, and believing it. Being a Roman Catholic does not qualify you for Heaven, it qualifies you for approval from Rome. You can do everything they’ve ever told you, perform every good deed, go to confession on a daily basis and receive every sacrament they offer and still have no assurance of eternal life. Why? Because none of those thing the Catholics want you to do are biblical. You can be a Catholic, or you can be a Christian, but you cannot be both at the same time.

In other words, it’s a recruiting tool of the Roman Catholic Church.
