Fake News – The ‘Real Ale’ Story

The following article is TOTALLY fictitious……..or is it?

The national anthem of the US, the “Star-Spangled Banner,” was written to the tune of a drinking song.

Beer and wine have been used to control the Masses since Roman Times.

With the collapse of the Roman Empire the art of brewing became the province of monks, who carefully guarded their knowledge.

In England, beer was cleverly marketed by the Church in the form of trendy Public Houses with ‘COOL’  pub signs.

The Church had a very good sense of humour and named a lot of the pubs after the four evangelists – Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

In iconography, the four evangelists are represented as the Lion, the Bull, the Eagle and the Angel.

Beer makes people stupid so the Church knew that the general public wouldn’t notice the connection – hilarious…

Frederick the Great of Prussia tried to ban the consumption of coffee and demanded that the populace drink alcohol instead.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected President of the U.S. in 1932 on a pledge to end National Prohibition.

Roman Emperor Hadrian was gay and decided to commemorate the loss of his boy lover, Antinous, by having a pub named after his favourite star sign.

The Romans and the Church liked the star signs of the Zodiac so much they decided to name a whole load of pubs after the constellations, just for a laugh to see if anyone noticed – nobody did!
