Are Taylor Farms Onions the link to the McDonald’s E. coli Outbreak?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

As they say, the plot thickens.

According to the Wall Street Journal “Taylor Farms, which supplied the onions to the affected McDonald’s locations, said it is cooperating fully with the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration. Based on information it received from the agencies, the company said, it removed from the market yellow onions produced at its Colorado facility.”

And, according to the Colorado Sun, “Taylor Farms issued a recall for its yellow onions, a day after sliced onions were named as the possible cause of an E.coli outbreak linked to McDonald’s that has killed one person and sickened 26 people across Colorado. It’s unclear if the recall is linked to the problems at the fast food burger chain, but the notice has prompted other businesses to pull onions from menus as a precaution, including Illegal Pete’s, a Colorado-based chain of fast-casual burrito restaurants. Food supplier U.S. Foods, which purchases its onions through Taylor Farms, notified Illegal Pete’s about Taylor Farms’ onion recall about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to a staffwide memo.”

Hmm, onions and Taylor Farms, this sounds a bit familiar – “On November 26, 2015, out of an abundance of caution, Taylor Farms Pacific, Inc., voluntarily recalled the celery and onion diced blend used in the Costco chicken salad and many other products containing celery, because they might be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. Consumers, restaurants, and retailers should not eat, serve, or sell any of the products recalled by Taylor Farms Pacific, Inc.”

Yes, I remember that outbreak all too well – https://billmarler.com/key_case/chloe-rodgerson-the-2015-costco-chicken-salad-e-coli-outbreak
