A Short Lesson From The 12 Day War

War is a dangerous psycho-spiritual force that binds society and state, even when the state is no friend to the people in times of peace. 

Tribal thinking that war brings out was once a protective force but it impairs our perceptions and blunts our better judgments, causing more harm in the long run.

The laughable 12 day war between Israel and Iran earlier this summer was a perfect illustration of this truth.

Before that operation the Islamic regime’s popularity in Iran was historically low. And in the regional arena it was on its knees, as both of its allies in Syria and Lebanon were defeated, with only the militias in Yemen and Iraq remaining in its fold.

But, as Randolph Bourne remarked, “With the shock of war, however, the State comes into its own again.”

And for the Islamic Republic of Iran, war is everything. Without war it would not even have come into being in the first place. It would have lived a short life if not for the gift of holy war.

It would have taken the path of the fragile revolutionary French regime in the 1790s before Napoleon took charge if not for the disastrous Iran-Iraq war. 

That war was a lifeline given to the new, highly unpopular regime by Washingdon, allowing it to unify the country against an immediate external enemy. 

Saddam, a creature of the CIA, was given the go-ahead to attack Iran in the chaotic aftermath of the Shah’s removal just as years later he was given same message regarding Kuwait, and in both cases he was walking into a trap.

The Ayatollahs opportunistically used the patriotic fervour sparked by the war to consolidate power, co-opt the armed forces, infuse Islamic militancy into Iran under the cover of fighting a foreign enemy, and portray any dissent as wartime treason.

Revolutionary France did not immediately grapple with an external invader, so as the revolution begin to eat its own it quickly lost its extreme ideological orientation and revolutionary fetishes. In the immediate wreckage a great commanding spirit in Napoleon was able to rise and take control of the chaos and bring order to France.

The Bolshevik revolution in Russia happened after the populace experienced the exhaustion and despair brought about by WWI. It was not a revolution but a civil war that began with the crimimal massacre of the royal family and continued with the mass extermination of the Russian people who opposed the new tyrannical regime. 

The only real revolution of modern times is the American revolution because what immediately followed its declaration of independence was not civil war, internal turmoil, mass killings, or misdirected ideological fervour, but a real war against an empire. It was a revolution worth the name.

The French, Russian, and Iranian revolutions were anything but. They were madmen, ideologues, and children playing with fire. They committed the crime of regicide, and followed that up with massacres, executions, and mass bloodletting. The American revolution featured none of those crimes because it was led by enlightened and sophisticated men.

It’s important to bring this history up to remind ourselves that what happened in Iran in 1979 was not a revolution and should not be glorified as such. And the regime knows this better than anyone else. 

That’s why it’s always so weak and afraid. It knows it is an impostor in the palace. And it knows that without war it cannot survive. 

And since eternal war is the entire basis of Islam it’s clear that the war to be fought in Iran is not just against the regime but against Islam itself. It has to die a painful death. 

What we should see in the future if both Iran and Israel are to survive is not just regime change but something much more expansive and greater. Regime change is thinking too small. Changing one puppet for another puppet will accomplish nothing. The entire clergy needs to be wiped out, mosques converted to libraries, and Islamic shrines leveled to the ground.

But are the Iranian people prepared to do that? Is Washingdon even interested in bringing about such an outcome since they seem to think Islam is a benevolent force in the world? Or would it prefer to see the Islamic Republic remain in power indefinitely?

Remember, this crazy Islamic regime, which is apparently so anti-American, has never harmed a single hair of an American soldier, sailor, or diplomat in its 46 years of existence. 

All the American hostages it seized with the cooperation and knowledge of the CIA in 1979 were returned unharmed and bellies full on Reagan’s inauguration day. They weren’t taken hostage, they were loaned out by the CIA to their contractors in the regime.

And these contractors know who brought them to power and who is still their master. But like Saddam, Zelensky, and all the other contractors of Washingdon, the day will come when they too will be betrayed and thrown away like trash.
