I’m annoyed.
A close associate has a relatively new refer/freezer combo, as does pretty much anyone who has a unit with controls on it. Its been misbehaving and rather than either throw it out or have someone come fire a parts cannon at it (with its attendant obscene cost) I’ve taken to actually identify the fault(s) and fix it.
The issue was complicated by the fact that the faults led to the evaporators (there are two in this unit, one in the fridge and one in the freezer) freezing up, which of course makes it cool like crap and also precludes taking things completely apart until it thaws out entirely, which is a serious pain in the ass as you cannot use any material amount of heat or you risk damaging the plastics. Thus a hair dryer on LOW for a bit to get the big chunks loose and out (careful!) and then a box fan in the open door blasting for an hour or two is required.
