A tragic incident has shocked many as Zimbabwean woman Tabeth Chidziva was shot in Johannesburg CBD over a simple plate of pap. Tabeth, who was selling food—including pap, cooked meat, and other meals—became a victim of violence that exposes deeper issues of crime, hatred, and xenophobia.
According to reports, a Zulu South African man approached her and demanded free food. When she refused, he shot her at close range, ending her life prematurely. This act of brutality is not only shocking but also deeply disturbing, revealing the dangerous realities faced by many immigrants and vendors in South Africa.
Further allegations suggest that this Zulu man was allegedly dating Tabeth’s daughter. The young woman reportedly told her mother about the relationship, to which Tabeth advised her never to accept such nonsense. Nevertheless, her warnings were ignored, and tragedy ensued.
Tabeth is a victim—a victim of crime, hatred, and xenophobia. No sane person would resort to shooting another human being over something as simple as pap or a woman he is trying to date. This senseless act highlights the urgent need for justice and accountability.
We demand that this man be arrested, tried, and sent to jail for his crime. Both Zimbabweans and South Africans are furious and outraged by this wanton act of evil. It is a stark reminder of South Africa’s troubled history of violence and intense xenophobia against African immigrants—an issue perpetuated by a minority of belligerent and hate-filled individuals.
