Summer Sampler 2019 Blocks 3 and 4: Curious Crossing and Victorian Tile

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Summer Sampler 2019 keeps rolling on! Here are the latest blocks we’ve made in the quilt-along:

First, Curious Crossing by Krista Hennebury of Poppyprint. This was last week’s block, and the skill in our Summer Sampler: Piecing Bootcamp theme: Improv! If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you probably know I have a complicated relationship with improv. When things aren’t carefully planned out for me, I freak out a little. LOL. But Krista’s “Improv Under the Influence” technique actually made this block so darn easy! I didn’t panic in the least! Yay!!

And you guys. Ombre Confetti Dot prints in a block like this? So, so yummy. I am seriously in love with this block.

Next up, for this week’s block, we’re tackling seam nesting with Block 4, Victorian Tile by Lynne Goldsworthy of Lily’s Quilts.

For those who aren’t familiar, “seam nesting” means pressing adjoining seams in opposite directions, allowing the seams to lock together and giving you better accuracy as a result. And this block gives you LOTS of chances to nest seams! I usually like to press my seams open, but I decided to go all-in on this week’s lesson and give side-pressing a shot. And it did work out very nicely! Nice, clean, pretty seam intersections. I’ll probably go back to pressing my seams open on the next block, but I’m glad I tried something different.
