Bible Story of the Day

Scripture is the story of Jesus, from Genesis to Revelation. There are over 400 prophecies and representations of Jesus in the Old Testament alone. The Old Testament pointed forward to the coming Christ, and the New Testament points back to Jesus. The Bible is a record of redemption through Jesus Christ who conquered sin and death when He died on the cross and resurrected three days later. The New Testament was written almost 2000 years ago. Some of the Old Testament was written over 4000 years ago. The Bible Story of the Day not only shows Jesus throughout scripture but shows how scripture is relevant to our lives today. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. I pray that the Holy Spirit opens your mind to understanding the verses and how they affect your life and gives you a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ. A Star Shall Come

Numbers 24:17

“I see him, but not now;
I behold him, but not near;
A star shall come forth from Jacob,
A scepter shall rise from Israel,
And shall crush through the forehead of Moab,
And tear down all the sons of Sheth. (NASB).

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

This verse about Jesus, was written around 1500 years before Jesus was born to Mary. The first part of the verse is clear to understand why Moses wrote that He would not be now or near. He was given a vision from God about the coming Messiah 1500 years in advance. The next part of the verse speaks of a star coming from Jacob. Jacob who is also named Israel is a descendant of Jesus. The star represents two aspects of Jesus’ coming: the star represents Christ’s glory and represents the star that appeared above Jesus when He was born. Matthew 2:2, ““Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.” The verse in Matthew refers to the wisemen that set out to see the King of the Jews once they saw the star appear in the sky. The scepter references Jesus’ power and authority. Sheth is also known as Seth, the son of Adam. The last part of this verse can be interpreted one of two ways with basically the same meaning. Jesus is not returning to rule the children of Jacob, the Israelites. Jesus is coming to rule all men. Those that refuse to be part of His kingdom will perish. They will be destroyed.

We have all been given grace and free will. We have the choice to believe in Jesus as our Savior and Messiah or not. Those that choose not to follow Jesus will be destroyed. The choice is theirs to make: eternal life through the Son of God or eternal death cut off from God forever. The harsh reality is that some people will perish. We have been warned. We have been protected. We have been told. God told us of the coming Christ 1500 years in advance, in this verse alone. Some will not believe the words or signs. The Kingdom is exclusive. The idea that everyone will go to Heaven is false. There are restrictions and requirements. The difference between this exclusive Kingdom and any other exclusive club is that everyone is welcome and invited. No one is turned away. They turn themselves away. “A man may be full of the knowledge of God and yet utterly destitute of the grace of God, may receive the truth in the light of it and yet be a stranger to the love of it.” (Matthew Henry Commentary).

What does this mean to us? We have our invitations. The stage has been set. Jesus has come once and will come again. Scripture 3500 years old predicted the events that have already unfolded. History and science have revealed an increasing number of “proofs” from scripture every year. Sulfur rocks have been found in Sodom and Gomorrah. Nineveh was found buried under a mountain of dirt with signs of having been flooded. Remnants of cities in the New Testament remain today. This is happening. We are witnessing the unfolding of prophecies from thousands of years ago. The harsh reality is that we will all be on one side of the wall of God’s Kingdom or the other. One side will be with believers and the faithful. The other will be those that made the choice to remain outside the wall. There is time to repent. Turn to Jesus, the King of kings. We do not know if we have a chance to be saved after death, but I ask you why wait that long? What are the rewards in believing life ends at 70 or 80? What is gained from denying Jesus as our Savior? The stakes are high. Do not wait and do not lead your family down the path of destruction. There is more to the life we live. We can have fulfillment in Jesus. Anything else will keep you wanting.
