Bible Story of the Day

Scripture is the story of Jesus, from Genesis to Revelation. There are over 400 prophecies and representations of Jesus in the Old Testament alone. The Old Testament pointed forward to the coming Christ, and the New Testament points back to Jesus. The Bible is a record of redemption through Jesus Christ who conquered sin and death when He died on the cross and resurrected three days later. The New Testament was written almost 2000 years ago. Some of the Old Testament was written over 4000 years ago. The Bible Story of the Day not only shows Jesus throughout scripture but shows how scripture is relevant to our lives today. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. I pray that the Holy Spirit opens your mind to understanding the verses and how they affect your life and gives you a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ. I Am

Exodus 3:13-14

¹³ Then Moses said to God, “Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you.’ Now they may say to me, ‘What is His name?’ What shall I say to them?”¹⁴ God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” (NASB).

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

Moses was an 80-year-old shepherd. He was banished from the land he called home, Egypt, because he tried to help free his kin, the Israelites, 40 years earlier. He killed an Egyptian guard trying to save his people, but it did not work out like he wanted so he became an exile. Forty years after he tried to free his people, God called him to free His people. Moses saw a bush burning and realized the bush was not being consumed by the fire. He knew he was in the presence of God. God told him to go back to Egypt and to tell them God’s name as “I Am”. This was among the holiest of names referred to God, and many did not utter the words out of reverence of not being worthy to say His name. God knew this would get the Israelites attention when Moses spoke the name.

John 8:58, “Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (NASB). Jesus is “I Am”. The Jews of Jesus’ time considered it blasphemy for Jesus to say that He was God. Indeed, it would have been if it were not true. Jesus is God. Jesus is I Am. There are still lots of people, even outside Judaism, that get upset with this classification, but it does not change the fact that Jesus is fully God; just as He is fully man making Him the great I Am. Moses was speaking to God in the burning bush, which is also Jesus. That is why Jesus proclaimed Himself as “I Am”.

What does this mean to us? It means that Jesus is who He says He is. If He was anyone else then His death would be useless to us, we would have no salvation, we would have no hope. Jesus existed before Abraham. Jesus is one with the Father. He is God. When He offers salvation, it carries the weight of the Creator and the One that can make the decision of who lives. We have salvation and the opportunity for eternal life with God the Father because of Jesus. Don’t let the world make this more difficult for you than it is. Jesus states that if you know Him then you know the Father (John 14:7). John 10:30 says, “I and the Father are one.” (NASB). That makes it as clear as it can be. Jesus has the authority to provide us with salvation from the punishment of death and eternal life, because He is the authority. He is I Am.
