Bible Story of the Day-Prophecy of the Messiah

The entire Bible is a revelation about Jesus Christ. From beginning to end, Jesus can be found in the text within. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. My desire through this Bible story of the day project is to show you the reference to Jesus in the Old Testament, and how the story can impact your life. My references will be posted at the bottom along with links that can help you dive deeper into the story than what I have done here. Open your heart and mind and be willing to accept scripture for what it says. If you don’t understand a story or verse or how it applies to your life, then pray to God for clarity and understanding. I pray this helps and affects your life and you have a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 25:7-9

And on this mountain He will swallow up the covering which is over all peoples,
Even the veil which is stretched over all nations.
⁸ He will swallow up death for all time,
And the Lord God will wipe tears away from all faces,
And He will remove the reproach of His people from all the earth;
For the Lord has spoken.
⁹ And it will be said in that day,
“Behold, this is our God for whom we have waited that He might save us.
This is the Lord for whom we have waited;
Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.” (NASB).

We rejoice over our Lord that has been sacrificed because in His death He was able to conquer death. The Prophet Isaiah wrote of Jesus over 500 years before Jesus became flesh. One of Isaiah’s prophecies was that Jesus would conquer death. Death was the final enemy to be conquered. Jesus had raised others from death physically during His ministry, but the final defeat would be from Jesus raising Himself from the dead. This passage describes the victory and the celebration of the victory. Defeating death was not for Jesus’ benefit; it was for our benefit. He offers us the salvation that He won.

What does this mean for us? This passage helps us understand why Jesus came to earth and died for us. It is the free-will that God gave us that put us in this situation. God does not dictate our every move. He is not responsible for the dumb things we do. God gave us free-will so that we could choose to love Him. Choice determines true love. Imagine tying your wife up and forcing her to love you. She may pretend to love you, but the first chance she got free she would run away quickly. That is not love. Now, imagine the front door to your house is open and you and your wife are in the living room together and you told her that you loved her, but she is free to choose to stay and love you or leave; and she stayed. You would know she loved you then. That is exactly how God approaches love with us. He loved us first and gave us the choice to love back. However, many years ago our ancestors were deceived, and made a poor choice that affects us to this day. God wasn’t surprised by our betrayal. He knew it would happen and planned to fix it before it broke. Jesus was that plan. God tells us through the inspired words in scripture exactly what His plan is and how it will happen. Isaiah shows us the plan in this passage. Jesus will come to defeat death, because all humans die physically, and we are dead spiritually because we are disconnected from God. Jesus restored that connection and offers us eternal life through Him.

The plan has been in affect a long time. God gave you the freedom to choose life or death. He has not forced your hand. Additionally, He has provided the way for eternal life because we cannot do it ourselves. He has literally done all the work for us in providing salvation. The only part remaining is our choice to say, ‘no thanks”, or “yes, God, I love you back”.
