Bible Story of the Day

The entire Bible is a revelation about Jesus Christ. From beginning to end, Jesus can be found in the text within. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. My desire through this Bible story of the day project is to show you the reference to Jesus in the Old Testament, and how the story can impact your life. My references will be posted at the bottom along with links that can help you dive deeper into the story than what I have done here. Open your heart and mind and be willing to accept scripture for what it says. If you don’t understand a story or verse or how it applies to your life, then pray to God for clarity and understanding. I pray this helps and affects your life and you have a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Adam and Eve in Genesis 3

Genesis 3:13-16

¹³ Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” And the woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” ¹⁴ The Lord God said to the serpent,

“Because you have done this,
Cursed are you more than all cattle,
And more than every beast of the field;
On your belly you will go,
And dust you will eat
All the days of your life;
¹⁵ And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her seed;
He shall bruise you on the head,
And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
¹⁶ To the woman He said,
“I will greatly multiply
Your pain in childbirth,
In pain you will bring forth children;
Yet your desire will be for your husband,
And he will rule over you.”

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

Genesis chapter 3 tells us about the Fall of man. This is where Adam and Eve consume the forbidden fruit and break the one law that God had given them. God finds out and delivers His judgment/punishment to the three parties involved. There are numerous viewpoints of this story, but the one I want to show you is the promise of Jesus to come. The Fall, as this event is called, introduced sin into the world and it affected everything not just humans but animals and all of creation. It is a very bleak moment in human history, but there is a promise from God slid into this very bad day. The promise is that Jesus will come and redeem us and restore the relationship we had with God prior to consuming the forbidden fruit. In verse 15, God tells Eve that her “seed’ or descendant would bruise the head of the serpent. This is the first reference of Jesus in the Bible, and the reference is made directly by God. Jesus is a promise from God at the very beginning of human history.

What does this mean for us? It means that Jesus was plan A. Jesus was always intended to be our redeemer. It was always God’s plan for Jesus to come and strike the head of the serpent, overcome sin and death, and restore our relationship with god. The world has become sinful, and we hold within us the sin of Adam and Eve. We are born into sin because of our ancestors. All the world groans because of sin. We are depraved and lost because of this very event. We are not without hope, however. We now know why we are the way we are, and why we sin and act like we do. The hope is in Jesus that He has returned and restored the path to righteousness through Him. We know that He will return once more and after His second coming there will be no more sin or death in the world. God knew this day would happen. God knew the price He would pay to restore us back to Him and chose to do it anyway. God gave us a way to righteousness and that is through His son Jesus the Christ. There is hope. You are not too far gone. God made a way for your salvation long before you were born. Jesus is the way, and God told us in the beginning that this was true. God wants you. Even when Adam and Eve were being punished for their actions God gave them hope of salvation. That same hope is offered to you. Do you want hope?
