Are Marijuana Products Legal in Arizona?

If you live in Arizona or are planning on visiting soon, and you want to give weed a try, then you’ll want to know about the legality of marijuana products in the state. Otherwise, you risk getting in trouble with the law.

Here’s what you need to know about Arizona law regarding cannabis.

Medical Marijuana

Ever since 2010, it’s been legal to use medical marijuana, thanks to the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act that barely passed. Today, around 50,000 Arizona residents are participants in this program, which allows them to have and use up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana at a time.

To be a participant in this program, you need a certificate from a doctor. This certificate is associated with conditions such as glaucoma, AIDS, hepatitis C, cancer, and Crohn’s disease.

You should note that the law allows you to consume edible medical marijuana in public, which gives you more freedom than recreational marijuana does (more on this later). However, you can’t be operating a vehicle, as it’s unsafe.

Recreational Marijuana

Very recently, the state of Arizona legalized the use of recreational marijuana. In November 2020, Proposition 207 passed, which allowed adults over 21 to use cannabis recreationally.

You can have up to 1 ounce (28 grams) of marijuana and up to 5 grams of concentrates on you at a time. And you can even grow up to 6 plants in your home for personal use.

However, just because this law passed and you’re over 21 doesn’t necessarily mean you can just light up wherever and whenever you want. You’re not allowed to use cannabis in public spaces, whether it’s medical or recreational. In addition, you can only purchase marijuana products in licensed establishments, such as dispensaries like Harvest House of Cannabis.

Other Legal Things You Should Know

Considering that marijuana is something that has psychoactive effects, it’s dangerous to operate heavy machinery or drive while using it. So understandably, it’s illegal for you to drive under the influence. If you do, it’s a misdemeanor.

Also, employers reserve the right to run a drug-free workplace. So even if you’re using cannabis legally, you can still get in trouble at work if your employer runs random drug tests.

Lastly, while it’s legal to consume marijuana in Arizona, it’s illegal to sell it through delivery services, like Uber Eats. So unfortunately, if you want some weed on demand, it’s not legally possible just yet.

Use Marijuana Products Responsibly

As you can see from this article, marijuana products are legal to use, both medicinally and recreationally. However, you still have the duty and responsibility of using cannabis responsibly. If you don’t, not only do you give the cannabis-using community a bad reputation, but you can still get in trouble with the law.
