Dead Before Questioning: Another Epstein Recruiter Dies in Mysterious Circumstances

Ghislaine Maxwell is serving twenty years in federal prison for conspiring with Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse minors. Jean-Luc Brunel, the French modelling agent accused of supplying Epstein with young women, died in his cell in Paris in 2022 while awaiting trial on charges of raping minors. Epstein was found dead in a Manhattan jail in 2019. A fourth name emerged from the documents released by the United States Department of Justice. The 68-year-old man, whose name is featured 1,841 times in the DOJ files on Epstein, died before French investigators could question him. Daniel Amar Siad was found dead at his home in Colombes, northwest of Paris, on 20 July 2026.

On 18 February 2026, the Paris prosecutor’s office opened a framework investigation into organised human trafficking and criminal conspiracy in preparation for a crime. It entrusted the inquiry to France’s Central Office for the Repression of Human Trafficking, known as OCRTEH.  Five rape and trafficking complaints had been filed against him since 2022, but Siad had always denied the accusations and said he was ready to face his accusers.

Investigators were expected to interview him. A lawyer for several of the women said he was due to be questioned shortly; Le Parisien reported that some had been assured he would be taken into police custody before the summer. Neither happened.

His death ensured that investigators would never hear his account of the Epstein network with which the documents linked him for years. Ebba Karlsson, the Swedish former model who accused Siad of raping her after luring her to the Côte d’Azur with promises of modelling work, later said she believed he had been “eliminated” because “he had too many connections with powerful people.” The cause of his death had still not been established publicly when this article was completed.

What made Siad important enough for so many different worlds to open their doors to him?

Jean-Luc Brunel arranged a written deal under which Siad received €3,000 a month and a 5% commission on placements, paid into a Thai bank account. A 3 May 2016 email later relayed Brunel’s description of Siad as a “scout or recruiter of girls and/or women for J.” The files show Siad introducing women, coordinating with other scouts and receiving money through Epstein’s financial staff.

The documentary trail did not end with modelling, and records show it led into a Russian-owned fashion channel, Gulf royal and business circles, and a diplomatic appointment covering Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. From there, the trail reached a movement seeking independence for Kabylia, the predominantly Amazigh region of northern Algeria, whose leadership had cultivated political ties with Israel for years. It also led to a family circle that included a self-described intelligence intermediary.

The records suggest that Siad’s value lay in his ability to move between those worlds, using the legitimacy of fashion and diplomacy to create access for an operation built around women, money and powerful contacts. Whether those connections also served another purpose is the question investigators never had the chance to ask. However, his death did not close the case. The Paris prosecutor’s office said the wider investigation would continue to identify anyone else who may have been involved.

The Recruitment Machine

Emails exchanged between October and December 2009 set Siad’s monthly retainer at €3,000 for six months, with another 5% due from the earnings of any model he placed. The money was to be sent to a Bank of Ayudhya (now branded as Krungsri) account in Bangkok registered under his passport name, Amar Siad, with his Swedish nationality written into the payment instructions. Siad replied that he would not disappoint Brunel. A near-duplicate copy preserves the same arrangement.

Karlsson’s complaint reaches back to 1990, when she was 20 and living in Stockholm. She says a man using a false name promised her modelling castings on the Côte d’Azur, then lodged her in a dark technical room attached to a pool house near Cannes. Karlsson alleges that Siad raped her after she rejected his advances and threatened to have her killed. She says he later introduced her to Gérald Marie, then the European head of Elite Model Management, whom she also accuses of rape. Siad denied knowing Karlsson and denied ever raping anyone. She filed a complaint in February 2026 and was formally interviewed by anti-trafficking investigators the following month. Le Dauphiné and RTL reported her account. After Siad died without being questioned, Karlsson and the child-protection organisation Innocence en Danger brought proceedings against the French state, alleging serious judicial failure and a denial of justice.

In 2004, a 21-year-old French former model identified publicly as Juliette G. says Siad approached her on the Champs-Élysées and offered to arrange meetings with modelling agencies in New York. A plane ticket followed, along with instructions to enter the United States on a tourist visa. The Madison Avenue address where she was taken belonged to Epstein. She says he took her passport, gave her money to shop, then asked her to undress so he could decide whether she was ready to meet the agencies. She recovered her passport and returned to France, but the offer of modelling work had already brought her across the Atlantic and into Epstein’s home. Her account was later reported by AFP via France 24 and Medias24.

Russian model Svetlana Pozhidaeva says Siad offered a different version of the same promise in 2008, telling her Epstein could arrange a Victoria’s Secret audition. It never happened. Epstein instead secured her visa through MC2 Model Management, the agency he financed with Brunel, and housed her in New York. Pozhidaeva became one of Epstein’s assistants and says she endured years of abuse while MC2 continued sponsoring her visa, binding the promised modelling opportunity to the household in which she worked. Emails reviewed by CNN support her account of the visa arrangement, while The Wall Street Journal reported her full story.

Malika, the pseudonym used in French television’s Complément d’enquête, said Siad asked her to find girls for Epstein “for massages, for prostitution” and showed her photographs of young Moroccan women. Her account describes Siad trying to extend the search through another recruiter rather than relying only on women he approached himself. Anya, another woman identified by a pseudonym, recalled Siad praising her intelligence at a Paris modelling agency before offering to introduce her to a friend in the fashion business. That friend was Epstein. She later called the meeting “a complete set-up” and described Siad as “essentially a professional trafficker,” according to the Daily Wire.

The correspondence maps the same work across a wider geography. In June 2009, Siad described a 20-year-old Latvian model, said she would sign with him as personal agent, asked whether to place her with Next and referenced Brunel and Scoop Models. In July 2010, while in Ibiza, he told Epstein that he was with a scout named Tigrane and “8 top girls.” Four years later, Epstein asked whether “the Swedish girl” was there. Siad answered that he recruited through “Schools and Universities” rather than agencies and said agencies became angry when he took their models, showing that he was deliberately looking beyond established agencies for women he could approach directly.

In June 2011, an Epstein associate wrote that she was going with Siad to inspect boats for “Russian receptions.” Two months later Epstein asked where Siad was; she replied that he called constantly and might be in Stockholm. The wider DOJ record directly identifies Victoria Housez Spiridonova through visible sender fields, signatures and matching professional details. In May 2011 she signed correspondence as an Elite Retail store manager at 14 Avenue George V in Paris and sent Epstein named candidates, ages, measurements and photographs. It is also worth noting that for much of the period in which Epstein owned his apartment at 22 Avenue Foch, Algeria’s consulate general operated from 11 Rue d’Argentine, several hundred metres away in the same arrondissement.

One message described a 19-year-old Russian woman as “Ready to travel”; another referred to “My scouting.” The two Siad-related copies omit the sender field, but their content and chronology align with Housez’s documented correspondence and form part of her work with Epstein and Siad in Paris.

Their messages show Housez and Siad searching for office space, sharing candidates and coordinating Paris work around visits by Leon Black, the co-founder of Apollo Global Management who paid Epstein $170 million between 2012 and 2017. Housez separately received tens of thousands of dollars from Black while scouting for Epstein, according to CNN. Black’s money was reaching the woman working beside Siad as they shared candidates, sought premises and coordinated the same Paris operation.

Siad told RTL that “Epstein never harmed the models I introduced to him” and said in a separate interview that he was ready to confront the women accusing him. His denial rejected the allegation that he knowingly recruited women for abuse while acknowledging that he introduced models to Epstein.

In 2014, Siad referred Epstein to a young German woman identified by Der Spiegel and ZDF only as Michele. The released PDF refers to a picture; the German investigation reports that Siad sent several photographs of Michele, then 22. A March follow-up offered to arrange a ticket for “Michele the girl you missed from Germany,” called her “a girl I know well,” and said, “you will love her.”

Michele had known Siad since 2012 and spent time with him in Dubai. Her mother visited in 2013 and later recalled dining with Siad and her daughter aboard a large vessel, according to taz. Family members say Michele admitted working for Siad as an escort. She disappeared in September 2015 and has not been found. German prosecutors have said there is no concrete indication of a specific crime, and the released correspondence does not establish whether she ever met Epstein. It does establish that Siad selected her photographs, presented her to Epstein and encouraged the introduction before she vanished.

The credentials Siad began carrying from World Fashion Channel in 2012 gave this recruitment work a more official appearance, although the French company behind the title would not exist for another three years.

The Architecture Behind Him

In April 2012 Siad wrote to Epstein, “I have a new name cards from World Fashion Chanel; it’s easy to stop models,” then referred to agency interest in deals. The spelling and grammar are reproduced from the email. Calling himself Development Manager seems to have given him an apparent professional reason to interrupt women in public. Duplicate releases appear as EFTA02011271 and EFTA01768940.

By November 2012, Housez was signing messages as World Fashion Channel’s “Official representative France,” using the address vh@worldfashion.tv. Siad’s cards and Housez’s official title placed both figures under the same World Fashion identity while they were corresponding with Epstein about models and recruitment.

World Fashion Channel Europe SAS was not established in Paris until 2015. French corporate filings identify it as SIREN 812696433, with €5,000 in capital, a registered office at 3 rue Jean Robert and Fashion Group SARL of Moscow as sole shareholder. Its closing accounts recorded €10,643 in assets and a €9,333 loss. It was dissolved in 2016 after barely a year.

Siad had therefore been presenting himself as the channel’s Development Manager for three years before the Paris company associated with that title was incorporated. Despite using the title for years, Siad appears nowhere in the reviewed French filings as an officer, signatory or employee, leaving no public corporate record of who authorised or supervised his role.

Russian corporate records show Igor Kesaev as the direct 100% owner of Fashion Group from January 2015 until May 2022. Kesaev appears in European Union restrictive-measures records as the co-owner of Mercury Group, which could suggest that the World Fashion Channel was operated from Kesaev’s Mercury Tower in Moscow.

Siad’s email directly links his use of the World Fashion Channel identity to approaching models. Separate correspondence shows Housez using the title “Official representative France” while both were communicating with Epstein about models and scouting. The records place them under the same media identity, but do not establish who authorised their titles or whether World Fashion Channel knew how they were being used.

Following the Money

The Thai account written into Brunel’s 2009 agreement was the first documented payment route. A British National Crime Agency referral to the FBI traced another one. Paragraph 17 of DOJ EFTA01721768 says payments totalling €6,000 were sent between November 2013 and January 2014 from an Epstein-owned Deutsche Bank private-banking account to a Svenska Handelsbanken account held by Amar Siad. The six-page referral runs from EFTA01721768 through EFTA01721773.

Swedish reporting based on the Epstein files identified two further payments of approximately SEK 100,000 and a later five-year loan of roughly SEK 250,000. A separate March 2018 email to Richard Kahn, subject “Fwd: : BANK DETAILS,” contains the instruction “5 year loan for 25k dollars.” The records leave unresolved whether the dollar and krona figures describe the same loan or separate transactions.

On 5 June 2017, Siad told Epstein’s assistant Bella Klein that funds had arrived. “The wired arrived so I transferred it to my Dubai count then I took the first flight to Barcelona,” he wrote. Richard Kahn, Epstein’s longtime financial manager, was copied.

The transfer added Dubai to the Thai and Swedish accounts already associated with Siad, extending a financial trail that had begun nearly a decade earlier. It also coincided with the start of his role representing the Kabyle movement in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, placing his financial relationship with Epstein and his political work in the Gulf during the same period.

Three months before Siad told Bella Klein that funds had reached his Dubai account, Deutsche Bank was pressing her for information about another Epstein-linked payment route, this one leading to Moscow. The bank had identified unexplained recipients and contradictory payment descriptions, yet Epstein’s money continued to move.

A March 2017 compliance chain, marked “URGENT – Immediate Response Requested,” concerned transfers made the previous year to Nikolai Gurov. Epstein’s side described him as a Russian publicity agent who owned a private media company called “Alliance Media Group.” When the bank requested his source of wealth, business activities and residential address, the answer was “UNKNOWN.” Later searches found no company registered to Gurov under that name during the payment period.

A September 2016 email shows Epstein approving Klein’s request to send Gurov $1,700 “for her publications.” The corresponding Deutsche Bank record carries another name in the payment memo, “OBI-RE ARINA MISHINA.” The transfer went to Gurov, was described as being for an unnamed woman and carried Mishina’s name. The compliance correspondence never resolved those conflicting identities and explanations.

In April 2019, Klein appeared as the originating party on a $25,000 Deutsche Bank transfer to a Sberbank account in Moscow. Her name appeared in the administration of payments connected to Moscow and in Siad’s correspondence about Dubai. The same Epstein staff kept appearing as money moved to recipients whose relationships with him were incomplete, inconsistent or unknown. It is no exaggeration to say that the warnings were clearly visible inside Deutsche Bank while Epstein remained a client.

In 2020, New York’s Department of Financial Services fined Deutsche Bank $150 million over its relationships with Epstein, Danske Bank Estonia and FBME Bank. Regulators found that the bank had accepted Epstein as a client in 2013 despite his conviction, opened more than forty associated accounts and failed to scrutinise suspicious payments adequately.

Senator Ron Wyden’s August 2026 Senate Finance Committee staff report, Looking the Other Way, found that Deutsche Bank had retrospectively identified 1,140 wire transfers worth about $147 million moving into and out of Epstein’s accounts in 2019. Its Epstein-related suspicious-activity filings ultimately covered more than $250 million in questionable transactions, including payments to women in Russia and elsewhere in Eastern Europe.

The Gurov inquiry shows that Deutsche Bank detected suspicious activity while Epstein’s money was still moving but failed to translate that scrutiny into effective controls. Only afterwards did the bank document the scale of the transactions it had allowed to pass.

The Gulf Passage

In June 2013, Siad told Epstein that he was travelling to Thailand and Vietnam with Khaled Ben Nacer Al Masned, whom he described as “the brother of Moza from Qatar.” He was referring to Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, a prominent member of Qatar’s ruling family and the mother of the country’s emir, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Siad said he had been assisting Al Masned and wanted to build something in Dubai, a message preserved in a duplicate DOJ release.

Five months later, an Epstein correspondent sent a photograph under the subject line “Daniel,” writing that he had just met Daniel and had not known that Siad lived only a few hundred yards from his house “at palm.” Although the sender field is redacted in the released email, Off Investigation identified the correspondent and the man pictured with Siad as Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, an attribution supported by the photograph and Palm context.

The exchange placed Siad close to one of Dubai’s most powerful business figures while he remained in contact with Epstein. Bin Sulayem’s relationship with Epstein continued for years. In February 2026, his name became publicly associated with a 2009 email in which Epstein wrote, “I loved the torture video.” Bin Sulayem later resigned as chairman of DP World.

Siad’s Gulf access also carried his recruitment activity into the region. In July 2018, Lena Zhukova, a correspondent involved in arranging the proposed Abu Dhabi hostesses, told him that “13 girls are willing to go as hostesses” for a Formula One event and asked about dates and visas. Siad forwarded her proposal to Epstein that morning. The exchange carried the recruitment activity documented elsewhere in his correspondence into the same Gulf environment where he had acquired business contacts and political standing.

By then, Siad represented the Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylia, known as MAK, across Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain. Algerian press places his approach to the movement around 2015 or 2016, after he had developed modelling and recruitment contacts in the Gulf. Ferhat Mehenni, the founder and president of MAK and leader of the Kabyle government in exile, appointed him the movement’s Gulf representative in 2017. SIWEL, the Kabyle information agency, later described his mandate as running from 2017 to 2020, while a programme for the 2018 Congrès Mondial Amazigh presented him publicly as a diplomat and international advocate for Amazigh rights.

The appointment gave Siad a political mandate across the same Gulf states where his business contacts and Epstein-linked recruitment activity were already operating. While representing MAK in the UAE, he received the proposal to bring 13 women to Abu Dhabi as hostesses and forwarded it to Epstein.

Six years after his formal term ended, Siad wrote to Mehenni in February 2026 announcing his withdrawal from militant activity. The letter indicates that his work for the movement had continued beyond his official appointment.

Algerian journalist Abdou Semmar later reported that MAK sources described Siad as remaining active and introducing contacts after his formal mandate ended. His involvement continued into the period before MAK, and the Kabyle government in exile unilaterally proclaimed Kabylia’s independence in Paris on December 14, 2025.

Siad had joined a movement with an established relationship with Israel. In 2012, Mehenni led a MAK delegation to Israel that included Lyazid Abid and held meetings at the Knesset and Israeli Foreign Ministry. A subsequent SIWEL report identified Knesset Deputy Speaker Danny Danon among the officials Mehenni met.

The relationship advanced after Siad’s formal mandate ended. In December 2025, the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security recommended that Israel move towards recognising Kabylia. Likud member Dan Illouz filed a formal Knesset proposal on January 6, 2026, calling for Israel to examine recognising Kabylia and establishing relations with it. The proposal gained co-sponsors from multiple parties and reached the Knesset agenda, although Israel has not formally recognised Kabylian independence. Mehenni publicly said Kabylia wanted to participate in the Abraham Accords, invoking Somaliland as the model.

According to Semmar, Siad claimed a role in bringing MAK and Israel closer while continuing to introduce contacts after his formal Gulf appointment had ended.

The same years place Siad in Epstein’s correspondence, Gulf royal and business circles, Abu Dhabi hostess recruitment and MAK’s political work across Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain. His role in each depended on the same asset. He could carry contacts, introductions and opportunities from one circle into another.
