A Maryland emergency physician who became a central figure during COVID is now at the center of a high-stakes federal case raising serious questions about medical judgment, billing practices, and the power of the DOJ. Dr. Ron Elfenbein, owner of Chesapeake ERgent Care and First Call Medical Center, was indicted in 2022 on healthcare fraud charges tied to COVID-19 testing billing practices.
